BITOSSI 1964 Italian Cinese Tall Vase In Glazed Blue Terracotta With Gold

About the Item

A tall blue glazed vase designed by Bitossi for Rosenthal Netter. This is a Bitossi vase crafted in Florence Italy in blue glazed ceramic and gold. This is the larger scale vase with perfect proportions, glazed in a textured blue with hints of green with a gilt glazed tapered base from the Bitossi "Cinese" collection. The Cinesi series was designed by Aldo Londi and was composed of decorative accessories like vases, lamps, candle holders, and sculptures. Drew heavily from the forms and patinations of ancient Chinese bronze vessels. Bitossi distributed the Cinese collection via New York's Rosenthal Netter stores. Bitossi A descendant from a long, long line of Tuscan ceramic manufacturers, Guido Bitossi established his own ceramic craft works near Florence, in Montelupo, in 1921. Modern Mid-Century pieces by Bitossi and marked as so, whether they are re-issues or not, are highly collectible and expensive. Such pieces, whether created by Londi, Fornasetti, Sottsass, Rashid or other great 20th century designers, are works of art. Aldo Londi Aldo Londi (1911-2003) was a painter, sculptor and primarily ceramist. He created objects that are still part of the history of Italian ceramics. He was born in Montelupo Fiorentino. At the age of eleven he started working for Fanciullacci manufacturing, where he could learn the traditional techniques in making pottery. After the war, Londi kept on his work and became Art Director of the famous Bitossi family ceramics studio in Montelupo. By Londi’s new style, Bitossi production had a sudden transformation. The style of Londi promoted the production of new high quality objects realized by handcraft methods. For Bitossi he designed his most famous lines of pottery such as ‘Rimini blu’, ‘Mondrian’, ‘Lobster’, ‘Sivilla’ and ‘Cinesi'. Aldo's artistry is represented at numerous museums around the world.
