Both artist names are signed, Henry Cahieux (1825-1854) and Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892). Cahieux and Barbedienne one of the most important metalworkers of the 19th century. The elegant handles are ormolu gilt bronze. The vases resting on a red "Griotte" marble base with ormolu bronze clawfeet. Made in France during the Napoleon III period, 1860-1870
Point of attention, there is one restoration on a corner of the marble. I had been chipped and the original piece is replaced, see picture.
Ferdinand Barbedienne was well known for his bronze foundry for art reproduction. In 1833 where he managed to earn some money before associating with Achille COLLAS who had just created a way of reproducting bronze and on a smaller scale, art objects. In 1839, Barbedienne founded the Maison where he copied most of the statues owned by european museums in bronze. Subjects chosen were often allegoric and extracted from Antiquity. the Venus de Milo is one of the first example. After 1848, the society grew their activities working with renowned sculptors, and manufacturing furniture, ceiling lights, mantelpiece ornaments.
Henry Cahieux (1825-1854) was the chief decorator of the Maison Barbedienne. Many works were executed in the neo-greek and neo-pompeian style. Barbedienne and this genius ornementalist collaborated until 1854 when Cahieux died from cholera while he was still in the prime of life. He was succeeded by ornementalist Louis Constant Sévin. Many lamps designed by Henry Cahieux and exhibited on Barbedienne's stand at the 1855 Paris World Fair won the medal of honor.
