About the Item
A sensational pair of French early 19th century First Empire period patinated bronze and ormolu urns attributed to Claude Galle. Each urn is raised by a square patinated bronze base with elegant ormolu topie shaped feet and a mottled reeded wrap around band. The base is decorated with a beautiful pierced ormolu band with floral designs and palmettes centered by a Fine mask, repeated at each side. Above the elegant socle pedestal are Fine ormolu leaves encasing the slender body. Leading up each side are striking handles with most impressive and richly chased open winged maidens in a superb satin and burnished finish. At the center are two charming butterflies centering a pierced palmette ormolu mount below a Fine foliate wrap around band.
