Antique George III Armorial Silver Mustard Pot, Henry Chawner, London, 1794

About the Item

Superb Armorial, rare octagonal reticulated silver mustard pot by Henry Chawner, 1794. The front panel finely engraved with a heraldic crest of a hand holding the Fleur-de-Lis. The top of this mustard pot is fitted with an octagonal domed cover centered by an engraved circular design and complemented by four part engraved border with a wave motif. The body of octagonal shape with stepped engraved base with foliate decoration and a complex reticulated garlands element at the top. Original cobalt blue octagonal insert, precisely fitted. The base fully hallmarked: HC, Lion Passant, London town mark, the letter t for 1794, Sovereign Head mark; the cover is marked with a lion passant on the interior. This piece is in remarkably good condition for its age with slight even wear throughout and a few insignificant slight abrasions. The engraving is well defined and beautifully rendered. The weight is 3.4 troy ounces excluding the glass liner. A complementary Georgian silver spoon by William Esterbrook, London 1829 is included.

Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle.
