About the Item

Scarce Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. sterling silver spirits warmer in excellent original condition. Consisting of a substantial solid silver circular stand on three tapering reeded legs ending in charming rectangular feet with four leaf floral decoration, joined by an interior ring for the fuel container, the container with a hinged cover and a removable interior element. Each piece fully hallmarked. G&S Co L'd, London, 1930. Great conversation piece, excellent addition to a sophisticated bar, memorable gift. Height: 3 inches Diameter of top: 3.63 inches Width at base: 4.88 inches Excellent condition.

    Rare, very early George I period silver brandy/spirits warmer, Joseph Clare I, London, 1714. Wonderful, historically interesting 308 years barware piece. Classic circular tapering form with a shaped base, heavy solid silver with a beautifully turned oak handle. Fully hallmarked on the side of the body Period initials on the bottom of base N E M Measurements: 3.32 inches in diameter, 5.25 inches to the to of handle, 2.13 inches height of vessel. 1714 was the year George I ascended the throne, making this an interesting, very early piece of Georgian silver. Excellent piece in very good condition commensurate with age. Beautiful old patina on the silver and the fine oak handle.     A stunning antique English silver plated cocktail or drinks tray made by the top-notch London silversmith "Goldsmiths' and Silversmiths' Company at 112 Regent Street, London; signed on the understand. This stylish tray stands on four attractive feet and is decorated with a beautiful engraved design. Just back from our silversmith's workshop where it has been professionally cleaned and polished, restoring it to it's former glory. Dating to c.1920, it remains in superb condition measuring 14" x 9 1/2" x 1/2". In 1880 William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman acquired premises at 112, Regent Street, London and founded The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. The firm produced a wide range of items from solid silver tableware and cutlery, jewellery and watches to electroplaters, trophies and surgical instruments. In 1898 the expanded and well-known firm became a limited company and added "Ltd" to its name. The abundant advertising activity of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd left numerous illustrations of their products. The company also became a distinguished dealer in diamonds and precious stones and a popular retailer of items by other silversmiths such as Harrison Brothers & Howson, William Comyns, Martin Hall & Co Ltd, W&G Sissons, among others. The company's artworks received acclaim at a number of international exhibitions from the 1880s through to the early 1900s.
