Pair French Silver Odiot Serving Forks, Roasted Meat, Baked Potato, Artichokes

About the Item

Pair of French Silver Odiot Serving Forks, for Roasted Meat, Baked Potatoes, or Artichokes, 19th Century, 191 Grams An exceptional and rare pair of heavy French silver serving forks by the esteemed Parisian maison Odiot, known for its imperial commissions and enduring legacy of neoclassical design. These robust and highly sculptural utensils, weighing a combined 191 grams, are likely late 19th century and showcase the elegance and intricacy typical of Odiot’s finest silverwork. Each fork features a dramatic two-tine form with sharply tapered prongs, subtly curved to pierce and serve roasted meats, baked potatoes, or whole artichokes—making them as practical as they are grand. The handles are richly cast and chased in high relief with deeply scalloped rococo shell medallions, surrounded by acanthus scrolls, beaded edging, and trailing floral motifs. The decorative language reflects both the Rococo Revival and Louis XV influence so often embraced in Odiot’s 19th-century service pieces. The reverse is equally detailed, with crisp contouring and a hammered texture near the junction of tines and handle. The forks are stamped with French silver hallmarks and Odiot's maker’s mark, denoting sterling standard (.950 purity). Dimensions: Each fork measures 8.5" long x 1" wide x 1" deep Total weight: 191 grams The combination of grand scale, weight, and ornate craftsmanship makes this pair not only a luxurious serving set but also a testament to Odiot’s mastery of form and detail. Whether used at table or displayed, they embody the richness of 19th-century French silver design with a sense of theatricality and refinement.
