Odiot Serveware, Ceramics, Silver and Glass
Founded in 1690 by silversmith Jean-Baptiste Gaspard Odiot, the house of Odiot became quickly known as one of the best gold and silver workshops in France, specializing in decorative objects and cutlery.
The company found early favor from the court of reigning French king Louis XV, which laid the groundwork for later success. Odiot achieved even more prominence under the leadership of Jean-Baptiste Gaspard’s grandson, Jean-Baptiste Claude Odiot, who took over the family business as a master in 1785. Odiot landed high-profile commissions by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, which translated into additional commissions by other royal families across Europe.
In 1827, Jean-Baptiste Claude handed the company to his son, Charles Nicolas Odiot, who would serve as the official supplier to King Louis-Philippe I and the Orléans royal family. Charles Nicolas specialized in Rococo-style silverware. The next-generation Odiot master, Jean-Baptiste Gustave Odiot, became the official supplier of silver to the czar of Russia and managed the house’s largest order to date: a 3,000-piece set of solid-gold dinnerware for Sa’id Pasha, the viceroy of Egypt.
Today, Odiot continues to produce exemplary silver and gold wares, from decorative objects to flatware, upholding the fine standards of the centuries-old brand. Odiot works can be found in museum collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Louvre in Paris.

This is a turn of the 19th Century sterling silver decorative bowl designed and crafted by Odiot, Paris. The rounded shape resting on a floral pedestal has an "HD" monogram engraved on the side. The piece boasts lovely raised detailed handles with acanthus leaf decor. The same acanthus leaves also adorn the rim of the bowl. The inside is vermeil (sterling silver covered with 18 Karats gold). The piece is signed on the underside Odiot - Paris with company legal hallmarks and Minerva legal stamp for French sterling silver.
The bowl is in good condition, with a tiny bump on the side. Check the close-up with a black arrow.
Measurements: 8.25 in wide (21 cm) x 5.50 in deep (14 cm) x 4.50 in high (11.5 cm) - The bowl diameter is 5.5 in (14 cm).

Founded in 1690, Odiot is dedicated to the sale of gold and silver tableware but does not produce any. The first member of the family to become a goldsmith was Jean Baptiste Gas-pard during the reign of Louis XV, he was received master in 1720 and was recognized as one of the best goldsmiths of his time.
From father to son, Jean-Claude Odiot then Pierre Odiot took over and perpetuated the family tradition. It is to Jean-Baptiste Claude received master in 1785 that it will belong to establish the real fortune of the house. It is he who elaborates the empire style in goldsmith-ery and it is he who is responsible for making according to the drawings of Prud'hon, the toilet service offered to Marie-Louise at her wedding with Napoleon in 1856, he will execute with Thomire the cradle of the king of Rome.
His son Charles succeeded him, he became the official supplier of King Louis-Philippe and the Orleans...
