An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Swedish silver sauce tureens; an addition to our 18th century silverware collection
These exceptional antique Swedish silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a rectangular base and collet rim.
The plain body of each antique sauce tureen is embellished with an impressive applied figural medallion to each side.
The medallion to one depicts a female carrying an overflowing cornucopia and the other bears a seated female with a turtle to her feet; it can be determined that such an arrangement of figures relates to a historical event or folklore.
The upper rim of each tureen is encompassed with applied bead decoration.
These exceptional silver tureens retain the original push fit covers ornamented with further bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive cast silver organic acorn style finial.
Each antique Swedish tureen is fitted with two impressive silver handles ornamented with a band of applied oval bead decoration to the upper portion.
The oval pedestal foot of each tureen is embellished with applied bead decoration to the upper and lower portion.
The pedestal foot surmounts a rectangular base ornamented with an impressive floral border to the collet rim.

The body of the mustard pot is embellished with applied girdles outlining the features of the bilge hoops and quarter hoops.
This fine mustard pot is fitted with a hallmarked plain domed hinged cover surmounted with a cast thumbpiece.
The mustard pot is fitted with a cast silver thread decorated handle, accented with plain pendant drop design to the upper terminal.
This mustard pot retains the original removable blue glass liner.

This small oval George III silver salver is raised on four scroll feet with a plain field and curvetto within a triple reed border. The reverse is engraved ‘June 18th 1803 Valentine Munden’s Prize Money when on board the Exeter East Indiaman for the Capture of the French Frigate La Medée.’ Maker’s mark of John Crouch & Thomas Hannam, London 1792.
The naval action took place on the 4th of August 1800 off the coast of Brazil. On that morning, the Royal Navy escort, Belliqueux sighted a squadron of French frigates and, giving chase, captured the largest ship La Concorde whilst the East Indiamen, Exeter and Bombay Castle pursued and took the surrender of La Medée. The Coutts and Neptune were unsuccessful in capturing a third frigate La Franchaise, but the action stands out as the only occasion during the Napoleonic Wars when a merchant vessel captured a French ship of war...
