"Optunia" is a floor lamp, designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune and manufactured by Fontana Arte, featuring a structure in cast aluminium, available with paints in white, onyx or glossy black nickel-plated colors. Molded cast glass, frosted and painted from behind, working as a diffuser. Base in painted metal. Power source housed in the base for the wall and ceiling versions, in the breadboard for the hanging version or onto a peg in the table version. It's provided with a dimmer inserted on the electrical cord and lighting sources are two 11W LED (3000K, CRI>80, Lumen 1384 + 1384).
"Optunia" is a collection of lighting elements available in four variants for tabletop (with or without stem), floor, wall and ceiling. Its functionality lies in the possibility of rotating the two discs that make up the nearly 360 degrees head, opening up an extraordinary number of lighting combinations. The lower disc rotates on one axis, while the upper disk simultaneously rotates on a second axis, perpendicular to the first.
This double movement gives "Optunia" the advantages of both direct and indirect light emission, exploiting the surface of the wall or ceiling to produce a soft light. Complementing its functionality, the design of such lamp is reminiscent of a form found in nature: the two disks resemble the pads of the prickly pear called "Opuntia ficus-indica", from which the lamp takes its name. A collection of exceptional technical sophistication, whose form is further emphasized by its colors: opaque white, bold and clean, dark mirrored chrome, recalling the preciousness of metal, a darker shade resembling onyx and quartz color, shifting from dark brown to black.

This lamp was designed by the Italian duo formed by Angelo Ostuni & Renato Forti and manufactured by O-Luce in 1958.

Founded in 1945 by Giuseppe Ostuni, Oluce is the oldest Italian design company still operating in the lighting world, a unique production excellence which translates passionate aesthetic and technological research into the potential of light into actual form. Over the years, Oluce has succeeded in building a collection structured like a tale, rich and multifaceted, inhabited by products that transcend fashion to become Italian design icons.
Its relationship with the design world begins
In 1951, Oluce successfully took part in the IX Triennale, presenting – in the lighting section curated by Achille, Livio and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni – a Luminator designed by Franco Buzzi. As was typical at that time, the company instantly gained visibility on the international panorama thanks to Domus magazine. Major success was then reasserted by Tito Agnoli with nominations at the second edition of the Compasso d’Oro awards, in 1955, for his two lamps (the 363 floor lamp and a special bookshelf model). In 1956 these were followed in rapid succession by two more nominations: one for a remarkable table lamp in polyvinyl slats and another for a pendant lamp (mod. 4461) with double perspex shade. Materials: Cast bronze, sandblasted glass, heat-resistant plastic system, driver and 24v LED.
Each copy is unique, has variable dimensions due to the craft techniques used. Handmade in France between traditionally blown glassware, the brass foundry and the designer’s studio. Signed, serial number and certifcate of authenticity. Available in textured black patina, textured antique patina and nickel bronze. Glass options: white pattern glass and white opale glass. Custom size and finishes on demand. Please contact us.
All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the USA it will be wired for the USA for instance.
Clément Thevenot is a French designer born in Normandy in 2000, Joyce a French designer born in 1999 in Marne.
Following a dual course of study between the École Supérieure de design de Troyes and the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro, training which will continue to inspire them in their work.
Clément runs a multidisciplinary studio where Art, Crafts and design meet.
The pair were employed as designers in two separate companies.
Joyce for La Rochère glassworks and Clément for Macheret foundry, this will be the genesis of the Archipel project.
