Please don’t hesitate to request further images or a video documentation of this item. after attending the Birmingham School of Art and Design and the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna with Josef Hofmann, Julius Theodor Kalmar took over Kalmar Werkstätten in 1913 from his father Julius August Kalmar. In the years from 1913 onwards he transforms the traditional Austrian lightning manufacturer into a company devoted to modernity, with deep roots in the Viennese Scesession and the beginning era of modern furniture. Kalmar Werkstätte became one of the leading companies in Europe collaborating with the Avantgarde architects and interior designers of it´s period. J. T. Kalmar´s design well blends the manufacturing expertise and tradition of Kalmar Werkstätten with the new and modern style and keeps contributing to its developmemt. This gives path to the invention of some modern design classics, like the "Dornstab lamp" or model "Hase", some again in production today. Very typical for Kalmar is the use of traditional material like paper, brass and bamboo or wood, and a unique sens for the combination of these. Outstanding items in their functionality, with special features, like the rotatable screen of this model.
