Neoclassical Faux Marble 3-Panel Screen, 18 Topographical Views of Italy

About the Item

Neoclassical Vedute Faux Marble 3-Panel Screen, 18 Topographical Views of Italy, Monumental Scale, by Maitland-Smith A striking and monumental three-panel folding screen by Maitland-Smith, featuring applied Italian vedute in the Neoclassical tradition. Towering at 96 inches high, this screen is designed with an architectural presence that evokes the grandeur of the Grand Tour era. Each of the three hinged panels is adorned with six sepia-toned topographical prints, totaling 18 detailed engravings, depicting celebrated 18th-century views of Florence, Venice, and Siena. The prints are arranged in elegant vertical triptychs and are framed within a painted wood surround finished in a masterfully rendered green faux marble with dramatic veining. Arched crests crown each panel, echoing classical architecture and giving the piece added sculptural dimension. The prints recall the visual style of artists such as Giuseppe Zocchi, Luigi Rossini, and Antonio Zatta, though this composition is distinctly Maitland-Smith in its bold, historical sensibility. While the front is highly decorative, the reverse is finished in a soft pale green wash, offering a more understated view that still complements its refined presentation. The screen is signed by Maitland-Smith, adding authenticity and collectible value. The screen folds compactly to just 3 inches deep for storage or transport. Dimensions (fully extended): 96" H x 60" W x 1" D Each panel: 20" W Folded footprint: 96" H x 20" W x 3" D In excellent vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age. A commanding design statement for neoclassical, traditional, or transitional interiors, and an extraordinary piece for collectors of Italian classical design.
