19th C. Italian Grand Tour Carved Marble Portrait Plaque Roman Emperor Titus

About the Item

19th Century Italian Grand Tour Carved Marble Portrait Plaque Roman Emperor Titus Italy, Circa 1880s A fine example of 19th-century Italian Grand Tour, this masterwork carved marble portrait plaque of Roman Emperor Titus, circa 1880s. This remarkable rectangular plaque, measuring 50 inches wide, 21 inches high, and 5 inches deep, is an exceptional example of the workmanship and artistry inspired by the classical antiquity revival of the Grand Tour era. At its center is a finely rendered profile bust of Titus, depicted facing left and framed within a 19-inch diameter laurel medallion. The medallion itself is further accented by draped laurel branches that frame and emphasize the distinguished emperor’s likeness. This exquisite piece is presented in two lighting variations, one lighter and one darker, to showcase its intricate details and how it might appear in different settings. The masterful carving is evident in the rendering of Titus’ facial features and the subtle textured laurel leaves, all in hand-carved relief for a striking three-dimensional effect. The plaque is securely mounted within a durable steel frame and backed with wood for added stability and easy installation. Perfect for both interior and exterior applications, it would make a focal point above a fireplace, in a garden, or as part of a custom architectural design. Combining the timeless essence of Roman history with extraordinary workmanship, this carved marble plaque is a true testament to the 19th-century Italian Grand Tour period. Overall Measurements: 50 inches wide x 21 inches high x 5 inches deep (1.75 inches thick in the steel frame mounting)
