Impressive Victorian Gothic Revival Country House Oak Umbrella Stick Stand

About the Item

An impressive Victorian Gothic Revival country house oak umbrella / stick stand. English. Circa 1880. Delivery included in mainland England or Wales. Made in solid oak, the stand with an architectural influence, having trefoil arched friezes in between the turned columns and cut out roundels. The top having carved finials to each corner. The stand has been refinished with a durable smooth waxed lacquer. Although not a traditional material, this means it will now withstand water, making it far more suitable for its original intended use. New galvanised metal drip trays have also been made, then aged, meaning this piece is beautiful, resilient and practical. There are some knocks and marks with use as expected. To note, one of the finials has a small piece missing, and a bun foot has damage, but is very secure. A few of the brass rods have worn on the undersides, these are not on show when in situ. Please refer to the photographs. The stand sits very sturdily and has no loose joints or woodworm. This piece was previously used by a prop hire company and may well featured on film sets. Overall, a fabulous large umbrella stand that would suit a country house, hotel or golf club.
