Japanese Inro from the Edo period (1615-1868) created by Kajikawa.
Beautiful Inro, created in Japan by one of the Kajikawa family during the Edo period (1615-1868), circa 1810. Has been carefully crafted in carved precious wood with applications of gilding maki-e and decorated with Japonism patterns. All dan trays are attached together with a himo cord. The detailed craftsmanship was a true pleasure to behold.
Period: Edo period (1615-1868). Shogunate.

Motif: A family of birds consisting of a cockerel, the hen and three chicks.
Drawers: Five.
Shape: Rectangular navette.
Technique: Carved wood, lacquer and decorated in iroe-hiramaki-e on a gold ground.

The Kajikawa family
Kajikawa family, flourished in the 19th century, they was Japanese lacquerware artists whose school in Edo (now Tokyo) flourished for more than 200 years. This family is perhaps the most famous of all the dynasties of Japanese lacquer artists, and certainly the name most often found on inro. The family is said to have been founded by Hikobei at Edo in the early 17th century, although some claim that the family’s great reputation really stemmed from his son and pupil Kyujiro. In any event, Hikobei worked for the shogunate, as did his successors until well into the 19th century. Kijirō excelled in designing particularly delicate lacquer inrō, portable medicine cases...

An excellent, fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver snuffer/pen tray made by William Bateman I; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection.
This exceptional antique George III sterling silver snuffer tray has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners.
The surface of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished.
The raised rounded border is embellished with an impressive vertebrate band of stylized floral, bud and foliate ornamentation, all on a matte background.
The rim of the tray is encompassed with an exceptional applied gadroon decorated border accented with a floral motif to either side and a scrolling leaf decorated design to each corner.
The underside of this impressive Georgian snuffer tray bears the silversmith's centre punch mark in addition to the full hallmarks pertaining to the renowned London silversmith William Bateman I.

This magnificent antique George III sterling silver wine cooler has a circular rounded form onto a shaped circular spreading foot.
The surface of the cooler is embellished with exceptional chased floral and scrolling foliate decoration, all on a matte background.
The decoration to the body incorporates a large scroll bordered cartouche to either side, each ornamented with a contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting firstly a chevron charged with three lions passant guardant, secondly in chief three cross-crosslet and to the base a lion passant.
This antique wine cooler is fitted with an exceptional pair of cast silver handles realistically modelled in the form of an eagle with raised wings, perched on a large scrolling leaf design.
This impressive cooler is supported by a cast circular shaped spreading foot embellished with further floral and foliate decoration, accented with a large scrolling border to the rim.
This exceptional Georgian wine cooler retains the original, hallmarked detachable liner and push fit cover.

These exceptional antique George III sterling silver wine coolers have a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot.
Each body is embellished with a bright cut engraved shield shaped coat of arms depicting in-escutcheon firstly and fourthly a bugle Horn stringed between three crescents, secondly and thirdly a boar's head.
The aforementioned coat of arms is surmounted with the crests of a demi-dragon rampant, holding a battle-axe and a dragons head pierced through the neck with a spear.
The upper rim of each piece is encircled with applied moulded decoration.
