An exceptional, fine and impressive set of six antique George IV English sterling silver Fiddle pattern tradesman spoons; an addition to our silver flatware collection
These exceptional and rare antique George IV English sterling silver tradesman/sample spoons* have been crafted in the Fiddle pattern.
The anterior surface of each spoon handle terminal incorporates the contemporary engraved initial 'MAG'.
The reverse of each 19th century spoon has a rounded heel and to a pip to the handle terminal.
By virtue of their size these versatile silver spoons could be used for a multitude of functions, including: pickle, mustard/condiment, small coffee spoon.
These exceptional and collectable spoons were crafted by the renowned London silversmith William Eaton.
NOTE: * Such a spoon would have been carried by a tradesman as a sample size, demonstrating at a small scale the pattern and quality of spoon available for production by the workshop.
Condition
These antique silver tradesman spoons are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each handle are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

The Samuel Alcock factory was operative in Staffordshire between 1822 and 1856, after which it was bought by Sir James Duke and Nephews. The factory started as a partnership between the young Samuel Alcock and the older Ralph Stevenson, who provided the factory and capital. Alcock quickly took the factory to great heights, building one of the biggest factories of its time. Alcock jumped on the new Rococo Revival fashion and served a huge new middle class market. It hold the traditional 'ball'. Typically seen as part of a pair guarding an entrance. Museum quality. No maker marks observed.
According to historical books, lions were introduced into Mainland China firstly as tributes to the Emperors. They are symbols of justice in bureaucratic officialdom and loyal guards in front of Emperors or Princes' palaces. They also are the Guardians of Fa (law) in Buddhist realm and stay in front of the temples. There lied people's fear, admiration, expectation and trust.
