About the Item

This is an antique Mucur Rug from Central Anatolia, the Kirsehir region with a floral pattern, good condition, and beautiful color composition. The town of Mudjar (or Mucur) is about twenty miles southeast of Kirsehir. The area has a long tradition of weaving, particularly prayer rugs. The main border in these specimens is classically composed of diamond shapes enclosing eight-pointed floral forms, while the prayer arch is long and sharply pointed, with a cross panel generally above the mihrab. The older rugs featured subdued earth shades of beige, rust, light blue, and apricot. In construction, there is nothing to distinguish the Mudjar from a dozen other varieties of Anatolian prayer rugs.
