About the Item

The Bergere lounge chair and ottoman, designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his company L’Atelier in the fifties, exemplifies the merge between European mid-century with Brazilian Modern so typical of the 50s. While the design has strong Italian influence, the use of solid Rosewood across the legs and arms elevates the piece into unique sophistication. While the Bergere design has common elements to other of Zalszupin creations, such as the “Paulistana” and “801” armchairs in the backrest and seat structure respectively, this rare piece stands on its own with a very unique style. The original upholstery had two colors so we decided to re-upholster the set in similar colors of ultra suede and the piece looks nothing less than spectacular. We also complimentary upholstery with any of our available fabrics. This particular chair was purchased from a private residence in Rio de Janeiro in the neighborhood of Copacabana. The structure has been reinforced and the wood has been refinished displaying colorful veins. This emblematic chair is exceptionally comfortable and would elevate any interior with a touch of Brazilian mid-century elegance.
