Lucania Armchair by Giancarlo De Carlo for Arflex, Italy

About the Item

"Lucania" armchair by Giancarlo de Carlo for Arflex, Italy, late 1950s. The Lucania is a generous and comfortable chair, which was featured in Domus magazine in November 1957. The article set out the details of the innovative design and the techniques used in its construction. The back and arms form a single metal shell, softened with bands of rubber, with the impression of the central spine faintly visible at the back. The leg section cradles the body and the black finish remains in good condition, with some signs of age as one might expect. The chair has now been professionally re-upholstered by hand to re-create the Arflex design. The "Storr" fabric used is a large-scale chunky wool bouclé made by Bute Fabrics, a traditional Scottish wool mill; the Pebble colourway has mid-grey loops over a dark grey ground and for us image 9, which shows a close-up of the fabric, is also a good reference for the colour. Approximate dimensions: H 92cm x W 90cm x D 75cm Seat height approximately 41cm Giancarlo de Carlo (1919 - 2005) was a noted Italian architect and designer.

Headboard with Brutalist Bronze Sculpture by Frigerio, Italy, 1968
By Luciano Frigerio
Located in London, GB
Headboard with large Brutalist bronze sculpture, model "Aurora" by Frigerio, Italy, 1968. The headboard comprises a large Brutalist sand-cast sculpture, overlaid on an arc of textured lacquered metal, which has a deep gold finish. The piece is in very nice vintage condition. We have left the sculpture unpolished and it has a developed an aged patina, ranging from brown to gold. There are minor losses to the finish of the headboard frame, both the arc and the cross-bars. The sculpture is bolted to the bed frame; it appears it could be unbolted and used separately, though we have not tried to do so. Approximate dimensions: Sculpture W 173 cm x H 49 cm Headboard W 185 cm x H 108 cm Please be aware this listing is for the headboard only. The remaining three sections of the bed surround...
