About the Item

An impressive and statement making pair of French early 19th century 1st Empire period walnut and giltwood armchairs, circa 1805. Each armchair is raised by handsome giltwood paw feet below square tapered legs and elegant corner rosettes. Each arm displays impressive and richly carved giltwood griffins below the beautiful lightly curved walnut arm supports. A large leather upholstered seat follows the contours of armrests. The upholstered back is also upholstered on the outside, all finished with brass nail heads.
