About the Item

A reupholstered iconic and whimsical sculptural lounge chair designed by Masanori Umeda for Edra, Italy, circa 1990. Aptly named Getsuen—which means “Moon Flower” in Japanese—this striking piece is inspired by the organic form of a blooming lily. The chair features five plush, petal-like elements, masterfully upholstered in soft, coral-hued velvet, offering both visual delight and surprising ergonomic comfort. A hallmark of postmodern design, the Getsuen chair reflects Umeda’s playful, poetic approach and his association with the avant-garde Memphis Group. Constructed with a steel internal frame, polyurethane foam padding, and discreet casters, the chair is both a functional seating solution and a collectible piece of design history.
