Vico Magistretti for Artemide Sedie Bianche "Vicario," Italy 1970s

About the Item

The Vicario armchair was designed by Vico Magistretti at the end of the 1960s for Artemide. In production from 1970 until the mid-1970s. Made of ABS plastic, this chair features flowing shapes and a perfect balance of design, functionality, and comfort. An icon of futuristic-style Italian design, it was used in the TV series "Space 1999" and is currently on display in the world's greatest museums including MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York and the Musée Des Arts Décoratifs Of Montreal in Canada. Ludovico "Vico" Magistretti (Milan, October 6, 1920 - Milan, September 19, 2006) was one of Italy's most important designers, architects and urban planners. Its clean and essential design characterized and inspired the world of home, office, and corporate furniture making throughout the latter part of the twentieth century. The legendary Italian lighting company Artemide was founded in the province of Milan in 1959 by the designer and engineer Ernesto Gismondi, born in Sanremo in 1931, and by the designer Sergio Mazza, born in Milan in 1931. As is well known, it was the latter who designed the Alfa Lamp, the company's first successful product, a year before Artemide was launched.
