About the Item

A TeVe lounge chair, designed by the Swedish architect Alf Svensson in 1953 for the manufacturer Ljungs Industrier (Dux). Crafted from solid beech with brass details and featuring original textile upholstery in a soft shade of green. This unusually low and wide chair was developed for easy mobility within the home, initially intended for the new innovation of television. It was crucial to have comfortable yet compact chairs that could easily be placed in front of the TV. When creating the TeVe chair, Svensson drew inspiration from American design, notably the LCW by Charles & Ray Eames. The Swedish designer Alf Svensson (1932-1992) studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Gothenburg and was soon hired by the well-known manufacturer Ljungs Industrier (Dux). He developed a wide range of furniture pieces during the 50s, including the Contour range and the modular lounge chair Interiör. In parallel, he also designed several lamps for the manufacturer Bergboms. In the early 60s, Svensson teamed up with fellow architect Yngvar Sandatröm and founded the design studio S-design. This collaboration resulted in even more renowned models, notably the plastic swivel chair Form 8/Galaxy, launched in 1971.
