About the Item

This rare early production collectors piece is a circa 1969 'Molar' settee by Wendell Castle (American, 1932-2018) made from gel-coated white fiberglass with molded white rubber footing. As Wendell Castle continued production on the Molar group of furniture over the decades, and other reproductions came into market including the ones by Clone, early examples like this one with their original finish and original rubber footing are highly desirable by collectors. We highly advise not refinishing or repainting these, as it can reduce the desirability for collectors. I have an early production 'Castle' chair, which is also part of Wendell Castle's fiberglass series, in my private collection that is very worn and aged. And while most sellers would repaint and refinish it, it is the very last thing I would personally do. It is the visible age that attracts me, as a collector, to these pieces as that is one easy way to differentiate original production examples to new ones. Another way to tell is simply looking on the underside of the fiberglass, but still collectors generally prefer the original color and finish despite any apparent age and wear. This Molar settee was in my private collection for the past 5 years and since we just moved to a new home I am selling this fantastic piece. This rare Wendell Castle 'Molar' fiberglass loveseat sofa would work great in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 25" x W 52" x D 34" Seat Height: 14.5" Seat Depth: 17" Arm Height: 21.5" CONDITION Good vintage condition with light age and minor wear. Some spots, more noticeable to seat. While the color is white, it does appear to have some sun fading. Attractive vintage example in original finish, ready for immediate use in a vintage or collector setting.

Fiberglass Loveseat w Pierre Cardin Fabric by Tue Poulsen for Domus Danica, 1970
By Tue Poulsen, Domus Danica
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This very rare fiberglass loveseat sofa is by Tue Poulsen for Domus Danica, circa 1970, and is one of approximately 80 pieces within a collection of fiberglass furniture that were produced for a design exhibition at the Bella Center in Copenhagen Denmark. The cushions have been newly upholstered in dead stock (never used vintage) Pierre Cardin fabric. This settee sofa, also referred to as a double lounge chair, was accompanied with other living room furniture for this collection which included a lounge chair, sofa, chaise lounge and tables. The voluptuous shapes were created in Poulsen's ceramic workshop, and pays homage to the ceramicists skills and vision in his tenured career as a sculptor and artist. Included in the photo gallery is a photo of Tue Poulsen with a chair example of the same design. In the same photo is documentation of the chair design and production photos when the chair was originally conceptualized and created, provided by Tue Poulsen to dealer/collector 'Deerstedt' (photo credit also to 'Deerstedt'). Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Sormani, Claudio Salocchi
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...

Monumental Pair of Fiberglass 'Jennifer' Lounge Chairs by Michael Taylor, 1970s
By Michael Taylor
Located in Los Angeles, CA
So many incredible aspects to this pair of monumentally sized 'Jennifer' lounge chairs by Michael Taylor, circa 1970s, we will attempt to list them all in this description. First, and most noticeably, is the size. They are huge, humungous, monumental, enormous... I mean, they are incredibly large. You can easily fit two people and a dog in a single chair and have room to cuddle, snuggle, hang-out, watch a movie, have drinks in an intimate setting, or even fall asleep comfortably cradled. It's not just how wide they are but also the depth also provides a dramatic increase in overall 'lounging' footprint of the chairs. These chairs are so large, they shouldn't even be called chairs, they are somewhere between a loveseat and a daybed - perhaps they should be called lovebeds instead? The second thing that we absolutely love about these chairs is its design history. The Jennifer chair is one of Michael's earliest designs. Michael designed it for actress Jennifer Jones (Mrs. Norton Simon), she asked him for a chair that she could curl her legs in and relax and this monumental chair...
