About the Item

This rare and important chair, designed in 1965 by Giorgina Castiglioni, Giorgio Gaviraghi and Aldo Lanza for Kartell, Milano, is the first ever chair made in the world in a single stackable monocoque, unlike the model 860 designed by Joe Colombo for Kartell in the same year. Marked at the bottom. Giorgina Castiglioni, Giorgio Gaviraghi, and Aldo Lanza were all notable figures in the Italian design world. Castiglioni was a prominent architect and designer, known for her innovative use of materials and her sleek, modernist style. Gaviraghi was a designer and engineer who worked on a range of products, from household appliances to industrial machinery. Lanza, meanwhile, was a journalist and critic who played a key role in promoting and popularizing Italian design both domestically and internationally. Together, these three individuals helped shape the trajectory of Italian design in the 20th century and beyond.
