About the Item

Catilina chair with painted steel frame, plywood seat top and polyurethane cushions upholstered and covered in green Claudio Valtorta leather. This iconic seat was designed by Luigi Caccia Dominioni, and produced by Azucena since 1958. Luigi Caccia Dominioni first presented this seat at the XI Triennale in Milan in 1957 and from this moment Catilina became one of Luigi Caccia Dominioni’s classics. Caccia Dominioni created a new chair and also defined how to sit in it. Catilina was not designed to relax and let go, but to be attentive and elegant. You could almost be transported to ancient Rome, sitting in the chair of the Roman senator Lucius Sergius Catiline, after whom it is named. In turn, the chair is reminiscent of medieval thrones or horseshoe chairs typical of classical Chinese furniture. Catilina is essentially a pen stroke, a play on curves, an object that-as Caccia Dominioni himself liked to say-is "ethereal, no more than a series of curved iron bars." Whatever interpretation you give it, Catilina embodies a product designed for comfort, thanks to the well-padded cushion, and dignity. When you rest your arms on the top edge, you can't help but feel regal, in contrast to the sense of abandonment you feel when sinking into a sofa
