Louis XV Style Gilt-Bronze Mounted Marquetry Cylinder Bureau
Located in Brighton, West Sussex
A Louis XV style gilt-bronze mounted marquetry cylinder bureau. Stamped to the reverse of the bronze mounts 'PB'. The top of Sarrancolin marble above a tambour with a central mount depicting Minerva. The marquetry depicting allegories of Geography and Astronomy. The interior has a green-leather covered pull out writing slide below an arrangement of drawers and cubby-holes. The back and sides intricately inlaid with marquetry of military and Maritime trophies. The sides with pullout leather-lined slides. The kneehole with a frieze drawer and three short drawers to the sides. France, Circa 1880. This desk is inspired by the bureau de roi, begun by Jean-François Oeben and completed by Jean-Henri Riesener for Louis XV in 1769 (now at Versailles) featuring similar marquetry panels, as well as a bureau à cylindre, also by Riesener, formerly thought to have been made for King Stanislas of Poland, but now identified as being supplied to the comte d'Orsay (now in the Wallace Collection). The present lot is however most similar in form to a secrétaire à cylindre...

Antique circa 1830-1850 James Winter & Sons London Satinwood Green Leather Desk
Located in West Sussex, Pulborough
We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare and important original fully stamped James Winter & Son’s 101 Wardour St Soho London Satinwood & Regency green leather partner desk circa 1830-1850 This is a very rare and fine piece of English craftsmanship, the timber is sublime, the leather top nicely aged and the stamps to the drawer’s crisp, this piece is pure quality The renowned cabinet makers James Winter & Sons were based in Soho London between 1823 to 1870 and produced some amazing pieces of antique furniture. James Winter founded his company in 1823 as a cabinet maker, undertaker, dealer, appraiser and specialised as a restorer of second hand and antique furniture to retail in his Soho shop. Exquisite Victorian Hardwood Military Campaign Writing Slope Desk & Later Stand
Located in West Sussex, Pulborough
We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely stunning original Antique Victorian Mahogany & Brass Military Campaign writing slope with later stand What a find, if you are in the market for this type of luxury antique militaria then look no further, this is the finest example I have personally seen. The timber patina is glorious, it’s a very old type of mahogany, most likely Cuban. The brass fixtures and fittings all operate perfectly and are flawlessly mounted The stand has been made at a later date to showcase and protect the piece, it is now the size of a normal side table. The writing slope itself has some interesting features, the top can be sat at a 45 degree angle for reading, there is a piece of beaded wood that slots into the two front holes, this holds and seats whatever literature you wish to rest there. The large side drawer is locked in place by a long metal rod, this rod also stops the drawer from coming all the way out. You have two internal document storage sections and various stationary cubby’s. The writing slope is baize lined and on the underside of the base you have a crosshatched silk ripped design which has been studded in place. This is exactly the same as antique LV steamer...
