Rustic Furniture

RUSTIC STYLE

For some, the phrase “rustic style” suggests a house like “La Pitchoune,” the late chef Julia Child’s cottage in Provence, with its exposed wooden beams and well-worn antique furniture. For others, rustic furnishings and decor prompt images of a place like the Lake Placid Lodge in Upstate New York, with its stone fireplaces and knotty pine paneling. Indeed, rustic furniture design takes many forms: twig furniture, a plank trestle table, a hand-stitched quilt, a chandelier made of deer antlers.

The rustic style originated in the late 1800s in England, where it was heavily influenced by Romanticism. By the 20th century, it had spread to the United States, adopted by wealthy New Yorkers and the National Park Service alike. Although there are many categories of rustic furniture, one of the most popular and familiar manifestations of the style is Adirondack furniture and the low-slung 1903 Thomas Lee Adirondack chair.

Rustic design is perhaps mostly about texture and humble materials: hand-hewn reclaimed wood, woven rush seating, wrought iron, coarse stone and weathered metal. As a decor, it exudes warmth and honesty, while a single piece of countrified design adds an intriguing visual counterpoint in a sleek, modern environment.

Easily identifiable by its rough textures, earthy colors and natural materials, rustic wares help bring the beauty of the outdoors inside.

As you can see on 1stDibs, vintage rustic chairs, dining tables and other pieces of rustic furniture offer endless inspiration.

Mid-20th Century Rustic or Western Style Sofa Attributed to A. Brandt Ranch Oak
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous vintage rustic or Western style sofa attributed to A. Brandt Ranch Oak comprised of a medium or honey toned Ranch Oak finished frame & reupholstered in a white vanilla toned nubby linen-like fabric with button detail on the back cushions. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been redone, restored, or refinished. Specifically, the wood is in fabulous vintage condition and only cleaning was done. The fabric was professionally cleaned but there are still some stubborn places on outer corners where you can see a bit of dinginess and just overall can tell it isn’t brand new upholstery. It is priced accordingly. Please see photos and zoom in for details as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1950-1960’s. Get ready to sit in incomparable Ranch Oak splendor!!! This wonderful sofa is comprised of a medium or honey toned Ranch Oak finished frame featuring bowtie shaped keyhole designs in both sides, wonderful tapered flat arms, and it has been reupholstered in a lovely white vanilla toned nubby linen-like fabric with button detail on the back cushions. It. Is. BEAUTIFUL!!!! Although this sofa does not bear the A. Brandt Ranch Oak tag, we have seen and sold identical sofas and chairs with the A. Brandt tag, so our attribution is solid. It has an extra high back and semi-attached buttoned back cushions making it very comfortable and will be perfect in your Rustic or western style living room, family room, entertainment area, or basement rec room. This sofa will be incredible in your ranch home, mountain home, dude ranch, cabin, or industrial loft. You simply can’t go wrong with Ranch Oak. A Brandt Company was established in 1900 by German immigrant August Brandt. But it was Paul Brandt, August’s son, who engineered and debuted the Ranch Oak furniture in Fort Worth, Texas in 1938. Paul served as company president for approximately 50 years. The production of the Ranch Oak line continued until the mid-1980s. It was used in ranch homes, mountain homes, dude ranches, and basement rec rooms across the nation. The US government contracted Ranch Oak furnishings for many of their military bases. And it was used by National Park lodges plus roadside motels for its attractive, durable, rustic type of décor. Spectacular style, high quality, and crazy comfort! This Ranch Oak sofa...

Steampunk Industrial Copper Timpani Kettle Drum Center Table by WFL Drum Co
By Ludwig Drums
Located in Topeka, KS
Awesome vintage steampunk Industrial or rustic copper kettle drum center table by W.F.L. Drum Company. Comprised of copper painted aluminum arms & base, copper kettle, drum skin top with painted steel rim, and chrome handles. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. This has an overall aged patina that is superb and consists of dings, dents, scratches, etc. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1937-1950’s. Everyone dances to the beat of their own drum, it’s what makes the world go ‘round! But let me tell you something… You are about to BUST A MOVE when you lay eyes on this INCREDIBLE copper kettle drum, we are offering as a REAL drum table, by W.F.L. Drum Company!!! AAAAHHHHH!! IT. IS. AWESOME!!! Its exclusive style borders between Industrial, steampunk, and a bit rustic. It is center table height, and it is comprised of a copper kettle surrounded by copper painted aluminum base, arms, and foot pedal and a fabulous drum skin top with a painted steel rim and vertical chrome handles. A fun fact… W.F.L. Drum Company was established by William F. Ludwig and a MONUMENTAL moment for Ludwig was on a Sunday night in February 1964 “The Beatles” preformed “All My Loving” as the intro song on “The Ed Sullivan Show” as Ringo Starr jammed out on his iconic drums which bared the Ludwig logo! Sheer popularity pandemonium for Ludwig after that! This is the ULTIMATE must-have for a music enthusiast or drum lover!!! How awesome would this be displayed in a music room in a corner between a couple of chairs holding a record player and set of vinyl, in a game room as a lamp table, or just an entertaining way to display your Beatles or Ringo Starr memorabilia? We think it would be fun to put a piece of glass either directly on top of the drum OR float the glass on the chrome handles and give it a floating effect! There are just TOO many fun possibilities with this especially unique find! The Ludwig Drum...
