Guy Lefevre for Maison Jansen Game Table with Drawers, 1970s, France

About the Item

This refined game table, which also works as a smaller dining table or center table, is by Guy Lefevre for Maison Jansen, circa 1970s France. Featuring a square leather top over lacquered brown case with brushed steel trim, legs and drawer rings, each side has one drawer outfitted with an ashtray and cupholder cut-out. Lacquered portions were refinished and newly lacquered. Ideal as a game table but can also be used as a dining table, cafe table, center table, lobby table, entry table, hosting table, Zoom table, brunch table, occasional table, or foyer table. From the 1880s to the 1980s, Maison Jansen outfitted many of the most important homes and offices from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, and Pamela Harriman just to name a few. Jansen's surviving interiors for monarchs, dictators, and social doyennes are now the focus of preservation projects while the furniture and objets d’art are sought after by interior designers, collectors and art investors, and decorative arts scholars alike. Consider using this Guy Lefevre for Maison Jansen game table in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 28.75" x W 31.75" x D 31.75" CONDITION: Good vintage condition. Steel has light patina throughout with some spots of heavier patina and light scratching and scuffs throughout. Lacquered portions were refinished and newly lacquered and in excellent condition. Leather top has age, wear and patina including scratches and light scuffs. Overall attractive vintage example and ready for immediate use.

VK201 Rosewood Dining Table by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss, 1958, Signed
By Vladimir Kagan, Kagan-Dreyfuss, Inc.
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This rare and important model #VK-201 sculptured Rosewood and Walnut 'Round Extension Dining Table' by Vladimir Kagan for Kagan-Dreyfuss was designed in 1958, this example produced between 1958 and 1960, during Kagan's partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss which ended in 1960. This rare example is stamped with the Kagan-Dreyfuss branded marks on the underside of the table and under one of the two leaves, and serves as an important early example of this sought-after design, perfect for collectors, art and design investors, and interior designers working on high profile projects. This Model VK-201, described in Kagan's early catalogues as a 'Round Extension Dining Table in walnut with rosewood top' has Kagan's signature gorgeous sculpted legs in solid walnut along with a magnificent vivid-grained Rosewood top. Just look at the closeup photos of the sculpted edges and tailored legs... this table looks more like a sculpture than merely just furniture. Quality of materials and craftsmanship you don't find in todays products - this table is the epitome of the saying 'they don't make them like they used to'. Ultra refinement in this gorgeous collectors piece which extends from a dining or card / game / cafe table seating for four, to a larger dining or meeting table suitable for eight. With no leaves - the table is 48" round and with both leaves extends to 96" while retaining a very nice 48" width. Vladimir Kagan's works have been highly valued by collectors and art / design investors, and his earlier works in the 1950s partnership with Hugo Dreyfuss (Kagan-Dreyfuss from 1950 to 1960) are among the most sought after by 'purist collectors' like myself. Why do I prize his 1950s works above all else? I can write a short book on this, but one easy to explain reason is that this was a period unlike the rest of his career, where items produced in this time are hallmarked within that period - a distinction that his later works lacked. Essentially, everything post the early 60s blended together with the decades thereafter. A novice Kagan collector is content with anything by Kagan, even items produced by Directional and American Leather Company...

Monumental Custom Granite and Steel Dining Table by Anthony Lumsden, 1970s
Located in Los Angeles, CA
A jaw dropping monumental granite slab and steel dining table by famed Los Angeles architect Anthony Lumsden - custom designed and crafted for his Los Angeles home in the 1970s. Sleek, modern yet a subtle statement piece, partially due to its large size for such heavy materials, but also for its vibrant deep granite veining which reflects light in a shimmering fashion. *Note, we have this very discounted prior to our upcoming move. Once we ship this table to our new location we will be removing the sale price so take advantage of the incredible deal while it lasts! The thick and large granite slab is heavy with no-doubt, the large chromed steel frame is also very heavy in its own regard - a sign of the quality materials he used. To re-create this staggering piece today would be costly and painfully difficult. Acquiring this dining table, which would also make an incredible conference table as well, is a great opportunity for a collector or architecture aficionado to own something truly unique and special - and something that will stand the test of time. ABOUT THE ARTIST: Anthony Lumsden was a famed American architect most noted for his sculptural futuristic designs with numerous projects in Southern California such as the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant, often seen in Hollywood films and television shows such as Star Trek Next Generation...
