"Promise of Paradise", Print with African American Male Figures

About the Item

Printed in a lovely shade of ruddy brown, this mysterious print depicts a young Black male figure in the foreground, with an older African American man behind him and holding him by the shoulders. The young man seems to be wearing a Japanese robe, and behind the older man is a Gothic quatrefoil, which may indicate something about a transition the young man is making from traditional Western culture to a more worldly one. The print was issued in an edition of fifteen of which this is the eleventh. The print is titled but the signature is difficult to discern.
