About the Item

Circa 1910, 14k, by Marcus & Co., American. This antique equestrian motif bracelet is the perfect casual-chic accessory. Its focal point is an expertly crafted, hand painted Essex crystal of a beautiful red fox. To either side, riders in the hunt field are masterfully pictured, a lady clearing a hedge sidesaddle, and a gentleman galloping. Two more running fox crystals complete the narrative. Beautifully made by the renowned New York jewelry firm Marcus and Co., this bracelet is town and country style at its fashionably horsey best. An Essex Crystal is a cabochon crystal carved with an intaglio image into the reverse which is then hand painted in minute, realistic detail. The depth of the carving is what creates the charming "trompe l'oeil" effect. Remark: "From riding in Central Park to the cinematic old west, there is no more passionate American love affair than our affection for all things horsey." SIZE: 7 1/2 inches long WEIGHT: 30.0 grams STONES: Essex crystal HALLMARKS: Marcus & Co. and 14k STOCK NUMBER: 25019 Jewelry acquired from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 3 days.

Art Deco Reverse Carved Rock Crystal Equestrian Motif Multi Charm Bracelet
Located in Narberth, PA
Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting pieces of rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape. An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted. From the front, the image appears to be almost three dimensional. Many different images were used in reverse carved crystal jewelry and artwork, but animals were some of the most common motifs. A magnificent gemstone and reverse carved crystal charm bracelet from the Art Deco (ca1920) era! This incredible platinum piece features a wonderful compilation of 6 equestrian themed charms which dangle from a fine interlocking chain link bracelet. Each charm is unique and all are detailed with sparkling Single Cut diamonds throughout. The gorgeous charms include miniature versions of a horseshoe, two riding crops, a hunting horn, a medal with ribbons, and the image of a horse carriage a man and woman seen from the back window. Both riding crops and the hunting horn charms are each adorned with a delicate Essex crystal cabochon, which rests on a Mother of Pearl background and is bezel set within a round frame. The matching reverse carved images are incredibly artistic, depicting the face of a charming red fox with delicate hand-painted detail portraying expressive facial features, pointed ears, and vibrant fur. The medal charm features a similar Essex carved crystal cabochon adorned with a painted profile of a horse head featuring rich brown hair with a bridle and bit. The beautiful "ribbons" below are each decorated with calibrated sapphire stones, adding a wonderful pop of rich blue color to the design. Finally, the romantic charm of a loving couple in the carriage window features two ruby "lamps" on either side of the carriage and the man's top hat adorns rich black enameling. The fine chain bracelet is comprised of delicate rectangular shaped links that interlock together and fastens at a spring ring clasp stamped with an "IRID PLAT" purity mark. Truly a one of a kind piece, this beautiful equestrian inspired bracelet would make a fantastic addition to any collection! The bracelet measures approximately 7" in length. The charms vary in size with the largest one being one of the riding crops, which measures about 3/4" long (including the bail at the top) and about 1/2" wide. The smallest charm is the carriage and it measures approximately 5/8" long, including the bail at the top, and slightly less than 1/2" wide. The overall condition of the bracelet is excellent. Besides normal surface wear there is no apparent damage to the platinum setting. All of the gemstones and crystal cabochons are intact and securely set and the enamel is free of chips or scratches. The Essex crystal cabochons display some scratches on the surface and the painted images, especially on the fox charms...
