Art Deco period Egyptian Revival ochre and black enamel 14K yellow gold cabochon carnelian ring
Early 20th Century
The discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922 by the Egyptologist Howard Carter led to hightened interest in the Egyptian Revival style which captured the imagination of artists, architects, designers and jewelers. Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Tiffany created some of the most innovative and striking designs in the Egyptian taste.
This beautiful Art Deco period Egyptian Revival ring centers a stunning, transluscent oval cabochon carnelian gemstone which was associated with the Sun God, Ra and used for protection, vitality and good fortune. The luminous gem is surrounded by fine enamel work featuring geometric motifs in ochre and black enamel. The shoulders are decorated in black enamel hyroglyphic designs.
