About the Item

A rare and stunning example of Louis Comfort Tiffany's artistic brilliance, this ring encapsulates his passion for color, light and nature. At its heart lies a mesmerizing cabochon black opal, weighing approximately 5.50 carats, displaying an extraordinary play of color. Bezel-set in yellow gold, the opal is accompanied by a GIA report verifying its exceptional quality. Flowing curves of red, yellow and green enamel frame the opal, each terminating in one of four old European cut diamonds of H-I color and VS2-SI1 clarity, totaling 0.15 carat, set in alternating square and pentagon-shaped platinum settings. The 18K yellow gold shank is further adorned with delicate chased pentagon motifs, showcasing Tiffany's innovative design and fine craftsmanship. This exquisite ring is accompanied by a report from the International Antique Jewelers Association and reflects the design genius of Meta K. Overbeck, the Head Designer of the Art Jewelry Department at Tiffany & Co. Overbeck was instrumental in interpreting Louis Comfort Tiffany's vision, producing unique creations that celebrated his love of nature and color. Rings like this exemplify the department's dedication to artistry and craftsmanship during her leadership from 1914 until Tiffany’s death in 1933. Best remembered for his stained glass windows and lamps, along with his Favrile glass, Louis Comfort Tiffany did not begin jewelry design until 1902. Considering the delicacy of his glassworks, his foray into the world of jewelry design seems a natural progression, and his creative output in the jewelry he designed for Tiffany & Co. mirrors many of the Art Nouveau aesthetics he perfected in prior years. Signed "Tiffany & Co." Circa 1920s
