An untitled signed bronze sculpture by the Mexican artist, Victor Salmones (1937 - 1989) from an edition of 10. Numbered 1 of 10. Signature "Victor Salmones. 1/10" in cast. In excellent original condition. Victor Salmones (1937-1989) was the most widely known sculptor living and working in Mexico during his lifetime. His sculptures won him universal acclaim and are held in the collections of museums, corporations, cities, universities and private collectors in some 30 countries. During his career, he was highly sought after and increasingly involved in the execution of commissions for major public works around the world. Salmones developed his love and talent for creating sculpture by working with clay in high school. He attended the Instituto de Bellas Artes (Mexican National Institute of Fine Arts), where he was an apprentice to the Bauhaus master, Otto Hoffman. He was trained to use the exacting, age-old lost wax method of casting and worked principally in bronze. Hoffman's encouragement led to the opening of Victor's own sculpture workshop in Cuernavaca in 1966. In 1967, Salmones’ fluid bronze “Adam” won first prize at the Biennale Exposition of the National Museum of Modern Art. His work continued to win the highest critical acclaim at subsequent Biennale expositions, and in 1971, over hundreds of entries, his life-size bronze Narcissus...

"African Pied Crow" is a wonderfully morbid sculpture created by the Canadian artist Yulia Shtern. This piece is part of her Mini Zoo Series depicting beautifully decaying remnants of species on our planet that are currently endangered. An unfortunate truth of our current society that is often forgotten. Shtern creates these beautiful pieces to draw the viewer in and force them to engage with reality head-on. From the artist "My new series of sculptures Magical Zoo observes this calamity through the prism of the wonder and playfulness of the natural world, through the miracle and majesty that is found in each and every animal, big and small, aquatic and land. The medium of the series consists of post mass consumption up-cycled material: paper products, packaging, non-recyclable plastics, fabric leftovers, other items that would have otherwise gone to a landfill. All the color on the finished sculptures comes from swatches of the up-cycled material itself. The only other substance added to the work is the transparent varnish glue. The pieces in the series are produced in an environmentally sustainable manner. Magical Zoo creates its own reality through the dualism of a colorful, whimsical representation of an animal whose habitat has been destroyed by industrial expansion or deforestation. There is a metaphorical interplay between the natural imagery international artist, Jennyfer Stratman, uses and its multiple meanings. While the human figure features strongly, it is the essence of the body that is important to her, not the representation. Particularly, the artist imagines trees and branches as a figurative link between the natural environment and our physical presence. The implied internal landscape of the body can also be reflected in how our surroundings from birth affect our sense of identity. By exploring landscapes of the body and mind, she also hopes to comment on the larger picture of our impact on the natural world. This exquisite bronze sculpture is meant to be installed as a wall hanging that sits 3 inches away from the wall. The sculpture and its many pieces can be installed and displayed in several arrangements. As displayed, this sculpture measures 77 inches high and 58 inches wide.
