What an exotic bright gold pendant of a fancy butterfly with exaggerated antenna 0n the top and legs on the bottom. There are raised flowers on the wings, a beetle head and eyes and a double strand rolo chain dangling below, giving it a mythical effect. The pendant is knotted onto a long (32 inch) black leather cord which can be shortened easily by retying the knot on the top, the cord contrasts wonderfully with the high carat look of the gold finish on the butterfly. The pendant and cord are in excellent condition and look like they have never been worn.

A wonderful jewelry box in silvered cast bronze by Parisian art jeweler Line Vautrin (1913-1997). From a small special series, the designer created circa 1945-55. on which poems were cast in relief on the cover. Most existing examples features poems that are well-known. This poem, however, was not identified by us, and possibly is a creation of the artist herself. It is a very soulful prose (see the full poem in French below). Signed on the base as shown.
We have a gilt bronze box with the same relief cast poem that comes with a three-page Certification in French by Comite Line Vautrin, shown in some photos as well.

A wide leather belt with sterling silver buckle and matching ornaments crafted by Graziella Laffi (1923-2009), Lima, Peru, circa 1965. The prominent silver articles feature the shape and motif rooted in pre-Columbian culture that inspired the artist's work. Mark on verso: PERU 950, extended size is 47 x 3 inches (119.4 x 7.6 cm) and weight is about 428 grams. Belt length adjustable between 27 to 38 inches. This lot with partially effaced Peruvian Cultural Ministry label to verso.
Graziella Laffi was born in 1923 in Florence, Italy to Gino Laffi, a silversmith and artist. Following her family tradition, Graziella enrolled in master classes after elementary school, focusing on design and painting. She next attended Escuela de Bellas Artes de Puerta Romana for three years, where Gino taught, and then to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, where she concentrated in architecture until the start of World War II. In 1947, Graziella, then twenty-four, immigrated with her parents to Peru. Gino later created a silversmith studio and showroom called Fabrica Laffi on Avenue Mexico, where Graziella initially learned her Craft. The Pre-Columbian culture in her adopted country inspired Graziella to travel and collect, which ultimately influence her design in the silver pieces. Modern scarab design vintage mixed metal necklace made in Mexico by ex-pat artist Ken Beldin 1940s and 1950s.
Signed on the back: Ken Beldin. In excellent vintage condition. The pendant measures: 3" H x 2 1/4" W.
The necklace chain is made of copper, shells, beads, and leather and is approximately 20" total length.
The pendant bears a lovely green patina and hangs from the original chain.
Ken Beldin (1900-?) was born in Mississippi and was educated at U. of C. Berkeley. He retired as head of a successful ad agency in Los Angeles in 1931 to travel through the Southwest. He worked for a time with Mexico’s National Railways attracting tourists to travel to Mexico by rail and was drawn into the rugged beauty of Mexico and its people. He set up a studio in Tenencingo South of Mexico City near Taxco and began creating one of a kind jewelry and sculpture. He was the custodian of a collection of archeological Pre-Columbian stones, and it was from these he derived his motifs. His "modern Ethnic" jewelry was considered to have the most feeling and the most authentic look of the Period. He worked throughout the 1940s and 1950s with copper, brass, steel, wood and leather. His work was admired and collected by some of the elite of Hollywood including Barbara Hutton, Edward G. Robinson, James Cagny and Sammy Davis, Jr. His friends in Mexico who also purchased his work were: Diego Riviera...
