He grew up writing poetry, essays and literary prose. In the 1960s, he was active in the Second Russian Avant-garde movement in the Soviet Union. In 1971, he immigrated to Israel. In 1975, he established the Leviathan school together with Avraham Ofek and Shmuel Ackerman, seeking to combine symbolism, metaphysics and Judaism in an all-inclusive “national style.” Grobman’s lithograph work employs images and symbols from Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. His paintings incorporate texts in Russian and Hebrew. In addition to his artistic endeavors, he writes about art and aesthetics. The group combined conceptual art and "land art" with Jewish symbolism. Of the three of them Avraham Ofek had the deepest interest in sculpture and its relationship to religious symbolism and images. In one series of his works Ofek used mirrors to project Hebrew letters, words with religious or cabbalistic significance, and other images onto soil or man-made structures. In his work "Letters of Light" (1979), for example, the letters were projected onto people and fabrics and the soil of the Judean Desert. In another work Ofek screened the words "America", "Africa", and "Green card" on the walls of the Tel Hai courtyard during a symposium on sculpture Part of the generation of emigre Russian artists, many Jewish, that included Yuri Kuper, Komar and Melamid, Eduard Steinberg, Erik Bulatov, Viktor Pivovarov, Vladimir Yankilevsky, Ilya Kabakov and Grisha Bruskin. Iain Baxter& "Deflecting Landscape" Conceptual Monoprint Painting
By Iain Baxter
Located in Surfside, FL
Lanscape with waffle iron in bright vibrant colors. Iain Baxter& (the artist recently added the ampersand to his name) is recognized as Canada’s pioneering conceptual artist. For over forty years, Baxter& has continually produced works that question the role of art as commodity and as a medium for cultural commentary. Among his many innovations, Baxter& was the first artist to adopt a corporate persona: in 1966, he formed the N.E. Thing Company. NETCO output ranged from conceptual, satirical, vacuum-formed still lives to post-modern appropriations of famous artworks. His recent work includes neon signs, ‘animal preserves’, a grocery cart of ‘GMO’s’ (genetically modified organisms) and installations using obsolete technology.) He is a painter, photographer, sculptor, mixed media artist, installationist, film & video maker, interventionist & performance artist who has been a forerunner of conceptual art in Canada. BAXTER& has been considered the Marshall McLuhan of Visual Arts in Canada. Continuous themes in his work include information technology, landscape, art as commodity, & environmental & ecological concerns. These prominent themes throughout BAXTER&‘s work are often met with wit, parody, satire & word-play. Through his art, teaching, and mentorship, BAXTER& has widely influenced Canadian art, creating new movements such as the Vancouver School of Photo-conceptualism and blurring the lines between private and public through his N.E. Thing Co. among many other impactful projects. He has also directly influenced major Canadian artists, including Stan Douglas, Ian Wallace, Jeff Wall, Roy Arden, Ken Lum and Rodney Graham...

Outsider Ryan Humphrey Street Art Collage, Large Painting Jackson Pollock Photo
By Ryan Humphrey
Located in Surfside, FL
Where the Road Crashes into the Sea, 2008 Aluminum, rivets, glass, acrylic paint, fabric Dimensions: 55 1/2 x 55" Mixed Media Sculptural Wall Hanging Art. This painting was made after visiting the location of the fatal Jackson Pollock car crash and includes a silkscreen photograph of the scene. The letters are formed from cut up old license plates. Ryan Humphrey (born 1971) is an American artist who currently lives and works in New York City. Education: BFA, Ohio University, MFA, Hunter College, New York 1999; Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine, 2001; Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program, NY, 2005-2006 Ryan Humphrey grew up in a small town in Ohio building things in his yard, riding BMX bikes and skateboarding. He then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the next three years to work at The Carnegie Museum of Art and obtain a commercial art degree where he developed an interest in contemporary fine art. This inspired him (along with a scholarship) to attend Ohio University where he earned his BFA in Sculpture. After moving to New York City he received his MFA from Hunter College, paying his way through school by working at The Dia Center for the Arts. After attending The Skowhegan summer residency program in Maine he worked for The Andy Warhol Foundation and participated in the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program. He has exhibited extensively. He currently lives and works in New York City. His work has been featured in the traveling exhibition Will Boys Be Boys? Questioning Adolescent Masculinity in Contemporary Art :Photograph, video, painting and sculpture curated by Shamim Momin of the Whitney Museum of American Art. (it included Slater Bradley, Larry Clark, Lilah Freedland, Tim Gardner, Luis Gispert, Anthony Goicolea, Janine Gordon, Ryan Humphrey, Nikki S. Lee, Julia Loktev, Maria Marshall, Ryan McGinness, Chloe Piene, Jeff Reed, Tom Sachs, Dean Sameshima, Collier Schorr, Type A (Adam Ames and Andrew Bordwin Humphrey's most recent solo exhibition, All of Nothing, was at DCKT Contemporary. Humphrey was also a contestant in Season I of Top Design, Bravo's reality show. Recently, Humphrey was included in the Queens International 4 exhibition at the Queens Museum of Art. His large-scale installation, titled Fast Forward (2009), included BMX ramps adjacent to a wall-to-ceiling assemblage tapestry, collection of trophies and customized BMX bikes, and he continued this theme in his installation Look for the dream that keeps coming back (2010) at Kunsthalle Galapagos. Humphrey expresses his growing up in BMX and skateboard culture through his art. The assemblage also included several paintings, created by the artist for the exhibition, and several sculptures of BMX bike wheels. The paintings were small drips that recall the works of Jackson Pollock, and the BMX sculptures are similar to Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel. The installation included an opening night performance by legendary BMX pro Dizz Hicks and Ryan Humphrey on the ramps. An edition of 20 silkscreen posters was made by the artist, and signed by himself and Dizz Hicks, to commemorate the event. He was included in the show 5 X 5 at the Whitney Museum of American Art at Philip Morris. Reed Anderson, Rina Banerjee, Susan Graham, Ryan Humphrey and Larry Krone -- each created a work inspired by one (post-1985) from the museum's own collection. Christopher Wool, Donald Lipski...

Hand Painted Lithograph "Tel Aviv Dragon Slayer" Israeli American Bezalel School
By Ivan Schwebel
Located in Surfside, FL
Artist: Schwebel, Ivan (Israeli 1932 - 2011) Title: Tel Aviv Dragon Slayer Dimensions: 22.5 x 30 inches Signature: signed and dated Schwebel 75 lower Right Corner Ivan Schwebel, Painter. Was born 1932, U.S.A. and immigrated to Israel 1963 after living in Spain, France and Greece. Studies: 1953-55 with Kimura Kyoen whilst serving with the U.S.Army in Japan; 1955-61 Institute of Fine Arts, with Philip Guston; New York University. Larry Abramson, who is very much in the mainstream of Israeli art, curated an exhibition of Schwebel’s work at the Jerusalem Print Workshop in the early 1980s; in the accompanying text, he described him as “an artist from the New York School ship-wrecked on a hill near Jerusalem.” IN SCHWEBEL’S BEST WORK, THE paint speaks for itself: the pools and explosions of rich color, achieved with pigment that he would grind and mix himself, the luminous figures emerging out of dark shadows, the quirky, dramatic compositions. Schwebel was erudite, with a passion for the bible and Jewish and Israeli history. He delved into all of it for his subject matter, bringing together characters and narratives regardless of time, and setting them in modern- day Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, the Judean hills, or New York City. He liked to play with ideas, and thoroughly mixed his visual metaphors. He showed David and Bat-Sheva next to a Nazi deportation train, and Job despairing over his relationship with the Palestinians. He based his characters on photographs of himself, friends and family, or movie stars. On his website, he describes a series of paintings about anti-Semitism in which the Holocaust is merged with the Spanish Inquisition: “Abarbanel who tried to negotiate with Ferdinand and Isabella is reincarnated in Rumkovski – the German appointed Head of the Lodz Ghetto. The bridge connecting two parts of the Ghetto is spanned over a present-day Tel Aviv cityscape. His “Tel Aviv” series, in contast, is fun: “Chen Cinema” shows a couple of actors who seem to have stepped out of an old romantic movie to cuddle in the shabby street outside the cinema. In his final “Safe Place” series of paintings, he goes beyond self-conscious narrative to create his own Garden of Eden. He had major shows over the years – at the Israel Museum and Tefen, and last year at the Ramat Gan Museum; his work had been exhibited at the Tel Aviv Museum and is represented in their collection. Retrospective 1966-1980 Gordon Gallery, Tel Aviv. Mixed Media Outsider Art Original Photo Collage Painting Brooklyn Bridge 2 Sided
By Tom Carapic
Located in Surfside, FL
This one is 2 sided with the Brooklyn Bridge on one side and Angkor Wat on the other side. (Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations.) Tom Carapic (born 1939), full name Tomislav Sava Čarapić, is an artist who specialises in found object artwork. He also does street art. A prominent Outsider Artist he was a featured artist in the American Visionary Art Museum's End is Near Exhibit. His work was also featured in the exhibition catalog. His work has been sold at Slotin Folk Art. Carapic was born in Velisevac, Serbia (then Kingdom of Yugoslavia). He was educated at a military school in Herzegovina in the 1950s, and served as a sergeant in the Yugoslav People's Army. Afterwards he was denied a college education, possibly because he was not a member of the Communist Party, illegally crossed into Italy in 1961, and, from there, emigrated to the United States. In 1965, he began attending classes at the New York Art Students League, but dropped out soon afterwards, eventually attending the Wilfred Academy of Beauty Culture. He was unable, however, to find steady beauty parlor employment, and worked in menial labor while attending classes in Spanish Education at Manhattan Community College. Due to a problem with accreditation, he was forced to switch to classes in the field of studio art. There he experienced hallucinatory visions that explained his repeated failures to obtain a degree. In the late 1970s, Carapic began experiencing more hallucinatory visions; claiming that his degree problems were caused when "the evil marriage bureau massed the troops" against his college and proceeded with "an Air force bombardment" of the school. After receiving other visitations, he began making and showing his art. Most of his art is centered on found objects, most famously computer keyboards, especially those by IBM. Most of his art consists of these objects, marked with black Sharpie markers, and with green thumbprints and handprints along the objects. His most famous exhibit in New York City is "Big Bang Theory," a doomsday warnings painted on computer keyboards and shoes and construction debris. Bears similarity to the Art Brut movement made famous by Jean Dubuffet. He was inluded in The End is Near! an exhibit which included an unprecedented group of noted thinkers, from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Stephen Jay Gould to Reverend Howard Finster and Apocalypse culture expert ,Adam Parfrey, visionary artists brought together by curator, Roger Manley, for an amazing exhibition at the American Visionary Art Museum, the world’s largest ever mounted on the subjects of Apocalypse, Millennium, and Utopia. Mixed Media Collage Neo Expressionist Painting, Drawing NYC Artist
By Loren Munk
Located in Surfside, FL
Loren Munk (American, b. 1951), mixed media painting "Romulus & Remus", signed "Munk '89", 13" x 19" inches sheet, framed 20.25" x 26" inches. In Roman mythology, Romulus and Remus are twin brothers whose story tells the events that led to the founding of the city of Rome and the Roman Kingdom by Romulus. The killing of Remus by his brother, and other tales from their story, have inspired artists throughout the ages. Since ancient times, the image of the twins being suckled by a she-wolf (dog) has been a symbol of the city of Rome and the ancient Romans. The artist Loren Munk (born 1951) is primarily known for his YouTube nickname James Kalm as an uploader of videos about New York exhibitions, amongst others. He presents himself as a maker of contemporary paintings for several decades and of cubist paintings of urban imagery. Munk has received accolades for his drawings and mosaics. He differs from traditional mosaic artists by the manner in which he incorporates glass into his decorative paintings. His unique and innovative use of materials such as mirror, gold-leaf and glass mosaic affirmed him as a founding force of Kitsch Art and a leading member of New York Neo-Expressionism. Munk's work debuted in SoHo in 1981 with a double show at J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. Since then, he has overseen an international career. In addition to exhibiting in Brazil, France, Germany and the United States, Munk has received national and overseas, public and private commissions. He is well represented in important collections throughout Europe, South and North America and the Middle East. Most recently, Munk has been producing a series of paintings which tackle the subject of art itself through a historical and diagrammatic lens. Munk documents the New York art world in YouTube videos, using the name James Kalm. Israeli Mixed Media Painting, Tumarkin Abstract Surrealist Photo Collage
Located in Surfside, FL
Abstract Surrealist Photo collage with painting. Mixed Media with or about Amos Keinan the Israeli Playwright and journalist. Yigal Tumarkin (also Igael Tumarkin) (born 1933) is an Israeli painter and sculptor. Biography Peter Martin Gregor Heinrich Hellberg (later Yigal Tumarkin) was born in Dresden, Germany. His father, Martin Hellberg, was a German theater actor and director. His mother, Berta Gurevitch and his stepfather, Herzl Tumarkin, immigrated to Mandate Palestine when he was two. Tumarkin served in the Israeli Navy. After completing his military service, he studied sculpture in Ein Hod, a village of artists near Mount Carmel. Art career Igael Tumarkin, 1980 Among Tumarkin's best known works are the Holocaust memorial in Rabin Square, Tel Aviv and his sculptures commemorating fallen soldiers in the Negev. Tumarkin is also a theoretician and stage designer. In the 1950s, Tumarkin worked in East Berlin, Amsterdam, and Paris. Upon his return to Israel in 1961, he became a driving force behind the break from the charismatic monopoly of lyric abstraction there. Tumarkin created assemblages of found objects, generally with violent Expressionist undertones and decidedly unlyrical color. Hebrew. His determination to "be different" influenced his younger Israeli colleagues. The furor generated around Tumarkin's works, such as the old pair of trousers stuck to one of his pictures, intensified the mystique surrounding him.Tumarkin has worked extensively in the medium of printmaking, producing over three hundred prints. He was encouraged by the print studios founded during those years in the USA, where prominent artists such as Jasper Jones...

Elaine Lustig Cohen "Sea Machine" - Surrealist Mixed Media Seascape SIGNED
By Elaine Lustig Cohen
Located in Surfside, FL
ELAINE LUSTIG COHEN (b. 1927) is an artist, dealer, and designer. She founded the gallery Ex Libris with her husband, publisher and author Arthur Cohen. Cohen’s recent work concentrates on collage using found photographs and ephemera. Elaine Lustig Cohen is the pioneering female graphic designer who incorporated the aesthetic vocabulary of European modernism into American graphic design, during the 1950s and 1960s. After training as a painter, she developed her design skills working with Alvin Lustig (whom she married in 1948). Following Lustig's premature death in 1955, she took control of the studio and between 1955 and 1961 produced a distinctive series of covers for publishing houses Meridan Books and New Directions. With their strong concepts, abstract forms and typographic invention, they represented a break from the prevailing tradition of pictorial illustration in book-jacket design. Her ability to summarize the content of text in the cover design was further aided when, working for architects including Eero Saarinen and Philip Johnson she produced signage schemes intended to express a building's character. She designed many posters and catalogues for New York-based arts organizations, including the American Center for the Arts, the Lincoln Center, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Jewish Museum. She married Arthur A. Cohen, publisher of Meridian Books; in 1973, they established Ex Libris, New York, a bookshop and gallery specializing in rare volumes of the European avant-garde. In 1995 her contribution to graphic design was acknowledge by an exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum, New York." (Livingston, 2003, 51). She continues to paint and create dynamic graphic collage-based work and is represented by Julie Saul Gallery, New York. Elaine Lustig Cohen donated her collection to RIT in 2008. Lustig Cohen, the subject of a joint retrospective in 2007 at Julie Saul Gallery and Pavel Zoubok Gallery, has exhibited widely since the 1970s. Her work is found in the collections of the Whitney Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Boston Museum of Fine Arts, among many others. A retrospective of her graphic designs was held at the Cooper-Hewitt in 1995. Ex Libris, which she ran together with her husband Arthur Cohen, was highly regarded for its exhibitions of 20th century avant garde books and ephemera...
