Sleepless Night, Dry Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Sleepless Night, Dry Pastel on Paper 7 x 9.25 inches , 2022 The work will be shipped inclusive of framing. Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Jogen Chowdhury had developed his individual style after his return from Paris. His most famous paintings are in ink, watercolor and pastel. He has painted in oil medium as well. In Chowdhury’s more recent works the sensory experiences of cloth, bolsters, sofas and the human body are cross-projected to produce an uncanny world of tran-substantiated tumescence and flaccidness. Jogen Chowdhury has been widely acknowledged to be, the master of the unbroken line. Like Léger, Chowdhury has been stirred by the linear Kalighat pat tradition, but his lines are emotive and used to express and suggest the character of a person. This is done by, distorting the form without breaking the line and in the world of young, contemporary art; distortion has been Jogen Chowdhury’s most significant impact. Perhaps, because of this, a common observation of his work is that his “people” are caricatures. The person feels familiar to the viewer but it is far more individualised – the face is imaginary but the psyche or characteristics are real. The power and beauty of his technique and line is this play between the known and unknown. In Jogen Chowdhury’s work, the figure is always in the foreground, it is primary, it conveys everything. He uses colour to give volume to his figures and the fluidity of his lines bring a sensual aspect to his forms. About the Artist and his work : Born : Born 1939 in Daharpara Village, Faridpur, Bangladesh. Jogen Chowdhury is an eminent Indian painter and considered an important painter of 21st century India. Family Background : His father Pramatnath Chowdhury was a Brahmin zamindar. Both his parents took interest in art, Jogen Chowdhury’s father Pramatnath Chowdhury painted several mythological scenes from the village theatres and also sculpted various Hindu icons. Whereas his mother was an expert in Alpana drawings. 1939-47 Jogen Chowdhury lived in a village atmosphere. And after partition in 1948, the whole family shifted. Till 1951 the whole family stayed at the police department quarter of his uncle, where on the walls Jogen Chowdhury painted his first painting, 1962 Jogen Chowdhury was employed as Designer in the Handloom Board. Education : 1955-60: Studied at the Government College of Art and Crafts, Kolkata. 1965 : He went to paris to study in Ecole des Beaux Arts, in William Hayter’s Atelier 17. Professional Experience : 1968-72 : He worked as an Art-Designer, Madras Handloom Board, Madras. 1970 : A collection of his poems were published, titled ‘Hridoy Train Beje Othey’. 1987 : Joined Kala Bhavan , Santiniketan as a professor of painting. Selected Exhibitions : 1972, 1975 & 1978 respectively : I, III, IV Triennales at New Delhi. 1979: The Sao Paolo Biennale. 1980: The exhibitions at the Fukuoka Museum, Japan. 1982: The Royal Academy, London. 1982: The Hirschhorn Museum, Washington D.C. 1986: The II Havana Biennale. 1989: ‘Festival of India’, in Geneva. 2002: Saffron art...

Structures, Painting, Oil on canvas, Band of colors by Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Somenath Maity
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Somenath Maity - Structures - 40 x 40 inches (unframed size) Oil on canvas The frame is a part of the work, the work will be shipped in a crate. Style : Somenath Maity is self-professedly an artist of urban environments and cultures. Called avant-garde and unconventional for his landscapes, this artist’s favourite occupation is to find the inner beauty that exists in every big city and that most people don’t see or bother to look for, and then express it in his abstract oils on canvas. Maity builds up his paintings, all aptly titled structure, one brush stroke at a time, almost as an architect would work on a blueprint for a building. Maity’s colors and textures are strong, bringing to the forefront the life of the urban sprawls that he paints, and investing them with a force that works beyond the life of their inhabitants, keeping them ticking no matter who comes or goes, lives or dies. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1960 in Midnapore, West Bengal. Education : 1980-85 : Diploma in Fine Arts, Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship, Kolkata. 1979-85 : Fine Arts, College of Visual Arts, Kolkata. Cityscape, Acrylic on Canvas, Brown, Red by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
By Tapas Ghosal
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Tapas Ghosal - Untitled - 12 x 12 inches ( unframed size) ) Acrylic on Canvas , 2022 *** Framed ( packing : complimentary; shipping cost would need to be extra) Style : In Hindu philosophy, the 'Antahkaran' refers to the totality of two levels of mind , namely the Buddhi, the intellect or higher mind, and the Manas, the middle levels of mind which exist as or include the mental body. It refers to the entire psychological process, including mind and emotions. Ghoshal’s paintings weaves an Antahkaran, creating structural spaces, sometimes meditative & melancholic in nature. His contemplative mind, enters into the inner realm of reality, dissects it and extracts a kind of mystic silence. The extant contemplative in wardress in him got charged with meditative spirituality through his association with this heritage city. Benaras, started flowing in his canvasses both through landscapes and human faces. Since 1995-96 his Benaras paintings started transforming. Initially his landscapes contained reflection of naturalness transformed through melancholic chiaroscuro. Gradually the naturalness started disintegrating into expressionistic structures. At a certain stage during 2004-05 some of these structures yielded into abstractions shedding all the links with naturalness. Then again the sign-symbols integrated into geometrical structures reflecting traces of original locations. About the Artist and his works : Born : Born in 1965. Tapas spent his childhood and early youth in the quiet idyllic environment of rural Bengal. The soothing lyrical landscape and the intrinsic mythical past within the rural life made a great impact in his inner being, which aroused in him love for beauty, spiritual in nature, making him contemplative and inward looking. Educational Qualification : 1989 : Graduation in Painting from Govt.College of Art and Craft, Kolkata (First Class First) 1992 : Post Graduate in Painting from Benaras Hindu University, Varanasi (First Class). Solo Exhibition : 1993 : The Centre Art Gallery, Kolkata; 1994 : Gallery Katayun, Kolkata; 1997 : Gallery Katayun, Kolkata; 1997 : ABC Art...

Fish under the Water, Watercolor on paper, Blue by Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Kartick Chandra Pyne
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Kartick Chandra Pyne Untitled Watercolour on Paper 30 x 22.5 inches Untitled Watercolour on Paper 30 x 20 inches (Set of Two) Inclusive of shipment in roll form. Style : After graduating from the Government College of Art and Crafts, Calcutta in 1955 Pyne began to move away from the tenets of both classical Indian and Western art to respond to the beckoning of his own artistic impulses. Landscapes fascinated him initially. But along with the world of nature and flora emerged his own reconstructed images of fauna that often signified as metaphors of human passion and energy, and his paean to the elemental magic of women. This transition may have risen from his penchant for human psychology and observing the intricacies of human behavior. In the case of Pyne too, his artistic vision does not adhere to logic because he does not see with his eyes but rather through his subconscious mind -- in an act of surrender to the liberty of his dreamy vision -- with little control over the wanton caprice of his depictions. So, in this distinctive vein, he is perhaps the most seminal surrealist of the contemporary Indian art. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1937 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Education : 1955 Diploma in Fine Arts, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. Exhibitions : 1961 : AIFACS, New Delhi. 1967, 80, 82 : Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta. 1968-87 : Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. 1968 : Jehangir Art exhibition, Bombay. 1979 : 100 Years of Modern Indian Art, Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan. 1988 : Chandigarh and Chitrakoot Art exhibition, Calcutta. 1991 : Calcutta 300 - Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Calcutta. 1991, 92, 93, 95, 97, 2001 : Chitrakoot Art , Calcutta. 1992 : Gandhara Art...

He was born in 1898 in a small village in Bengal and showed an early aptitude for art. Despite facing financial difficulties, he pursued his passion and enrolled in the Government School of Art in Calcutta. Bose's early works were influenced by the Bengal School of Art, which was a movement that sought to revive traditional Indian art forms. However, over time, Bose developed his own unique style that blended elements of Indian art with European modernism. He was particularly influenced by the works of artists like Paul Cezanne and Georges Braque. Bose spent two years, 1924-6, at the Royal Academy. He was heavily influenced there by the post-impressionist Walter Sickert. He refused an invitation to help decorate the pavilion at the British Empire Exhibition in 1924 with Mukul Dey...

Untitled, Figurative, Ink & Pastel on Paper by Artist Jogen Chowdhury "In Stock
By Jogen Chowdhury
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Jogen Chowdhury Untitled, Figurative, Ink & Pastel on Paper 5 x 6.5 inches , 2003 Signed in Bengali Style : He has immense contribution in inspiring young artists of India. Untitled, Dry Pastel on Paper, Blue, Pink by Contemporary Artist "In Stock"
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Hemant Rao - Untitled Dry Pastel on Paper, 12 x 12 inches, 2020 Born in a remote village and my paintings are inspired by nature. Different elements of the world, including the mystery of light and shadows fascinate me. In a soothing vocabulary of abstract forms, they re-claim their touch. I use dry pastel, exploring luminescent shades, forms submerged under semi-transparent layers, creating a journey, a discovery of some kind, adding some space to let the eyes breathe, till I find myself creating a sanctuary of inner peace and serenity, in a constantly moving world. The Yellow Paradox of Love, Acrylic on Canson Board by Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Pradiptaa Chakraborty
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Pradiptaa Chakraborty - The Yellow Paradox of Love Acrylic on Canson Board, 5 x 6 inches, 2016 Will be shipped in a roll form. The current bunch of paintings mirrors this human Chinese Chequer , which moves about life as an unguided engine ramming into edifices indiscriminately. The paintings also depict the human scrambling for sensuality and gold – digging. The use of various colours, dark and light, in Pradiptta’s work symbolize the inner somberness and fakery. The interplay of mythical and supernatural machinery has been a significant form of artistic expression in the post – modern art arena and thus is interpreted as lending authenticity to the disarray and phantasmagoria in which man landed into. Style : Colours and semi realistic approach reflect the various images of life. Life is itself a kaleidoscope of fleeting images capturing the joys and disappointments of life. Life is a Juggler’s game whereby games are played out to veil the hidden instincts of human life. The conjurer on the road juggler his paraphernalia to entertain the spectators. Such a showmanship has become the grain of human existence. But now days it has turn to different parabola, all perspective are changing like some tsunami wave pass through of our modern civilization. Present impact of canvas is great drama going on. It is a arrested split second of mythical demonstration in modern apparel in post modern globe. Tries to decipher the mythological structures and traditions of Indian art, Characters from Indian mythico-religious tradition, Traditional commentary and background pigment give the proper optimistic pulsation which is very essential for painting’s vivacity. I want to establish extraordinary encounters, represented with the utmost precision which take place on the canvas and try to procure a wonderful hallucinatory quality in which the real and the imagined merge into one. About the Artist & his work : Born : 1979. Education : 2003 : BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS (B.F.A) in Graphics from Kala Bhavana, Vishva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Five years Diploma in Painting From Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata West Bengal. Group Shows : 2013 : Group Show in Chandigarh Art...

Nude, Figurative, Pastel on Paper by Contemporary Indian Artist "In Stock"
By Sanatan Dinda
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
Sanatan Dinda - Untitled - 28 x 20 inches (unframed size) Pastel on Paper, 2010 shipment without frame Style : Sanatan Dinda discovers the beautiful amidst the ruins of a dilapidated city; his work becomes lyrical while he puts his signature on the curves and cleavages of sculpted human bodies. Born in the intestines of North Kolkata, the lanes and by lanes of Kumartuli, the squalor and the dirt, the refinement and nuances of a traditional craft of idol-making, the ancient river, the lonely bathing places taught him everything. Poverty all around, Sanatan had enough courage, even in his formative years, to convince himself that eternity could be invented, here and now, in a day. His art, both sculpture and painting, engages in a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Today, his work can be considered to be a prime example of contemporary Bengali visual culture. For last few years, Sanatan has been trying to stress upon traditional clay-sculpting – primarily the local popular sculpture...
