Pair MCM Red Polystyrene Original Pastil Rocking Chairs by Eero Aarnio for Asko
By Asko, Eero Aarnio
Located in Topeka, KS
Fantastic vintage Mid-Century Modern red polystyrene original Pastil ergonomic rocking chairs by Eero Aarnio for Asko, a pair. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. The bottom of each chair has some scratches from use. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa,1960s. Now THIS is SPECTACULAR SEATING!!!!! We have a pair of bright red Eero Aarnio Original ergonomic rocking seats designed and manufactured in 1967!!! Ok folks… we have a SERIOUS gamer in-staff… We’ll call him “Randy” who had the pleasure of testing out the comfort of these ergonomically appealing chairs… and let me tell you… this guy “Randy” is the Real Deal… an O.G. (Old Skool Gamer) and he KNOWS his stuff!! And his professional gaming opinion on these chairs is that they are very comfortable and “great for gaming!” The arm position aesthetics are comfortable for clutching and moving your game controller and they’re nice and low to the ground so they’re easy to jump out of while you’re screaming at the television and your gaming buddies on the other end of your headset! LOL! They are also comfy while leaned back, holding a book, and reading or just sitting back and lounging. The chair oscillates and rocks in all directions and they are one of the only chairs designed by Eero Aarnio which he designed to be suitable for indoor or outdoor use. They are comprised of bright red polystyrene and believe it or not… this chair can float on water! We do not recommend floating down the river while sitting in these beauties but if for some unfortunate reason you should endure a flood in your home, you don’t have to stop playing your game! At least until you lose power… HAHAHA!! Seriously, the design and materials are just that good and sustainable. As a matter of fact, in a 1968 article by the New York Times they reported the design as “an ideal design for the human body.” If you have a game room, this pair of chairs is a MUST, but they will also be fantastic in the living room across from the sofa, in the family room for a fun spot to rock the grandkids, or out on the back patio or lanai. They’re radically red, ridiculously comfortable, “Randy” approved, and THEY ROCK!! Eero Arnio is above all an innovator and creator of some of the most recognizable and most loved furniture of the twentieth century. He and his family lived in Lauttasaari which is a small island adjacent from Helsinki, he has a laboratory there where he spends time drawing and designing. He is best known for his iconic Ball Chair, Bubble Chair, Pastil, Pony, and Double Bubble. He designed the original Pastil chair in 1967 and in 1968 he received the American Industrial Award for the chairs comfortable shape and unique aesthetic. Mr. Aarnio himself believes that the design and ergonomics are so good that they don't need cushions. The New York Times also reports that "Pastil has the ideal design for the human body. Asko was purchased in 1999 and is now known as The Indoor Group Ltd. His best-known projects were transferred in 2016 to a newly founded Finnish company managed by design entrepreneurs but the “iconic” pieces sell with an “Eero Aarnio Originals” label. Asko was founded in 1918 by cabinetmaker Aukusti Asko-Avonius as the Lahti Joinery Factory. Asko worked with Finnish Production and Design Company and well-known designers in the mid-20th century including Ilmari Tapiovaara, Tapio Wirkkala, and Eero Aarnio. Asko acquired ABB Cylinda in 1988 and changed their name to Asko Appliances and in 2014 Asko Appliances AB moved the head office to Lidkopping, Sweden. They continue to produce high quality, durable products with innovative solutions. This is an AWESOME pair of ORIGINAL Eero Aarnio Pastil...

Norwegian Scandinavian Modern High Back Reclining Lounge Chair Attr Arnt Lande
By Stokke Møbler
Located in Topeka, KS
Amazing MCM (aka Mid-Century Modern) Norwegian Scandinavian Modern style high back reclining lounge chair which is attributed to Arnt Lande for Stokke furniture manufacturer. It is in fabulous condition. It has been professionally reupholstered, and the teak frame has been completely refinished. The reclining mechanism works perfectly. Please see photos, circa 1950-1960. My husband says this is the most comfortable chair he has ever “lounged” in…EVER! And it is extremely hard to find a chair that fits his six-foot three-inch frame. I say it is one of the most beautiful chairs I have ever seen, and its design is attributed to Arnt Lande for Stokke furniture manufacturer in Aalesund Norway. With that combination how could you possibly go wrong? This phenomenal reclining lounge chair is comprised of a teak frame made in the Scandinavian Modern style of the era with a reclining and adjustable scoop high back upholstered seat. Called the Combi Star Rock n’ Rest Chair. By using the side lever, it can be locked in an upright or reclining position, then when unlocked, used as a rocker. This example has been completely refinished, restored, and newly upholstered with a multicolored (think golds and reds and greens) wavy striped fabric. It even retains its original adjustable and detachable head pillow! Plus, just look at that button detail. It would be the perfect reading and relaxing chair in any room of your home whether your style leans to Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian, Industrial, western, or modern country. Arnt Lande was a Norwegian furniture designer and interior designer who from the 1940s for the next four to five decades made his mark on Norwegian furniture design. Most of those years with Moller & Stokke aka Stokke Fabrikker...

Midcentury Scandinavian Modern Style Spindle Back Rocking Chair Black with Cane
By Conant Ball
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome black painted midcentury spindle back rocking chair in a Scandinavian Modern or Danish modern style with a natural cane seat. This rocker is in wonderful vintage condition. The original painted finish has a nice age patina which includes wear and worn spots where the wood shows through the finish. We believe the cane seat to be a new one. Please see photos, circa mid-20th century. Modern and rocker are not usually two words you think of together but just look at this beauty. It is done in the Scandinavian Modern style, but we do not know if it is Danish. It has lines reminiscent of several Scandinavian Modern rocking chairs, but it also reminds us of the Conant ball rocker. So, it could be American. You could call it a modern Windsor rocker...

Vintage Stendig Bentwood & Cane Rocker Double Circle Design w Handle by Thonet
By Stendig Co., Thonet
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome bentwood and cane double circle design rocker with handle by Thonet for Stendig. It retains its original oval Stendig handmade in Czechoslovakia sticker as well as an ink stamp. It is in wonderful vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have seen. Please see photos, circa 1960s-1970s. Modern looking rocking chairs are so difficult to come by. And this one, although not officially modern by its design year, fills that void. This rocker, or I actually mean one like it, was first designed in the 1860s by Michael Thonet. So, by the time it was imported to the US from Czechoslovakia by Charles Stendig, the design was already 100 years old! That is what I call timeless design. By 1913 the bentwood rocker represented 5% of Thonet’s sales. Our model we are offering has a more Bauhaus look than the original #7064 rocker which is illustrated in the 1904 Gebruder Thonet catalog. It has more straight lines. No curls or spirals and no turned side pieces. Although we believe it to be derived from this model. Perhaps its more modern influence was provided by Josef Hoffmann or Le Corbusier. Or maybe even Charles Stendig himself! You can be sure it will complement your modern or Mid-Century Modern décor. Stendig was totally the brainchild and passion of Charles W. Stendig. You cannot write or talk about Stendig without explaining Charles. He was a Pioneer of import goods in the mid-century. After serving in WWII as a paratrooper, he studied business with emphasis on international trade at NYU and City College of New York. Afterward first working for Raymor, another pioneering distribution company, for about two years departing to start his own business, Stendig. He opened his first showroom in 1956 in midtown Manhattan. He is credited for sparking America’s interest in furniture from Finland...

Danish Modern Teak Rocking Chair
Located in Topeka, KS
Wonderful Mid-Century Danish Modern rocker in great vintage age appropriate condition. Here, in my opinion, is one of the hardest pieces of mid-Century Furniture to find a rocking chair! And this one is a wonderful example. The wood on this Danish modern teak rocker is in fabulous condition and the upholstery, which I would say is original, is in great shape; but, the foam leaves much to be desired (the back cushion is too soft and the seat cushion is old and crispy). However, the coverings do have a zipper so that is easily rectified. The seat straps have been newly replaced. Someone did a bad repair at some point and there are staple holes in the wood surrounding the straps. Luckily they are not seen when cushion is on chair. I have not been able to determine maker of this particular chair but it is most similar to a Selig rocker...
