Not traditionally known for its great tennis players, Belgium has since had two female superstars in the game, Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters, who both played in the 1990s and into the 2000s. Perhaps this is a composite of those gifted players. The artwork exudes resounding energy and would undoubtedly be the centrepiece of any space in which it is hung. The work is in good overall condition and has been newly framed and glazed with anti-reflective glass. It is signed and dated ('95) by the artist in the lower right hand. The depiction of a young girl epitomises child portraiture of the late eighteenth century, in which painters such as William Beechey, Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough had begun to discover and express the true character of children, in contrast to the stiff, miniature-adults of previous generations.

Artist biography
Orovida Camille Pissarro, Lucien and Esther Pissarro’s only child, was the first woman in the Pissarro family as well as the first of her generation to become an artist. Born in Epping, England in 1893, she lived and worked predominantly in London where she became a prominent member of several British arts clubs and societies.
She first learned to paint in the Impressionist style of her father, but after a brief period of formal study with Walter Sickert in 1913 she renounced formal art schooling. Throughout her career, Orovida always remained outside of any mainstream British art movements. Much to Lucien's disappointment she soon turned away from naturalistic painting and developed her own unusual style combining elements of Japanese, Chinese, Persian and Indian art.
