'Poems in paint' Flip Gaasendam tells with his paintings where he likes, there, in those places, he paints. His recognizable loose touch, carefully chosen colors, spherical landscapes, interiors and portraits have been part of the permanent collection of Galerie Bonnard for years. We read somewhere that Flip Gaasendam has a 'Flip Gaasendam veil' on his subjects. That is, we believe, a good description of the works of this highly esteemed artist. "Poetry in paintings" is also a statement that fits with the work and can be read in the numerous descriptions that can be found about the artist. The artist himself says that he wants to put life to a halt in his work. He says the following about his way of working:  'Because I am an aquarellist from home, I learned how to paint transparently in tone and tone. I also use that in my oil paints. My work is classified as post-impressionistic. When I paint, however, I forget everything about art history. I like a lot of things, from Alma Tadema to Andrew Wyeth, but I am a painter of today. It therefore goes too far to say that I consciously go back to the past. I work unorthodox. I do not apply the paint with a fixed method. I brush with wipes, use the palette knife, work with my hands, etc. That my palette is heavily controlled by the color green, is because I often make a painting blond with cobalt and ocher. My themes are often nostalgic and romantic. as a child, I thought the morning mist was beautiful, and with the light effect in the Groninger station restoration it is just as well. The pronounced technique is the first thing that strikes you when viewing the works of Jan Grotenbreg (1946). It is innovative and unique. The result of his idiosyncratic working method can be compared to Roman and Medieval murals, the so-called fresco in which people paint directly in wet lime. At the time, fresco technique was a decorative art form in Europe. However, it is not the decorative element that inspires and interests Jan, but the weathered appearance of the surviving fresco paintings. That is what he wanted to see in his own work. In 2000 he started experimenting with cement on linen. This technique is so special, because cement is a building material and does not stick to canvas. After many attempts, Grotenbreg has found a solution to this problem with modern binders. An impressive series of animal studies followed. Jan Grotenbreg only paints animals he has an affinity with. Animals such as the horse, the cow and the bull, as well as lesser-known animals such as the protected bird of prey, the black-capped vulture, the Egyptian Nile bird Ibis and the endangered house sparrow, have been laid down on linen by Grotenbreg in a layer of gray cement with acrylic paint in black-brown color nuances. The texture and composition of the applied cement is a very important part of his work. That's what makes it intriguing. The way in which the cement is applied determines the decisiveness of the work even more than the image. The animals, especially the sparrows, sometimes only cover a very small part of the canvas. It is clear that the emphasis is on technology. The charm of Jan Grotenbreg's work lies in the imitation of that weathering. Mostly animals like dogs where depicted as an attribute in paintings in the 17th century, and sometimes used to symbolize certain character traits. This boy is lovingly caring for his dog, which he is giving his full attention. Another interesting detail is that Ter Borch's brother Moses, was probably the model for this painting. Ter borch often used family members as models for his paintings. Moses was also a very talented painter and draughtsman. Several copies of this work by Ter Borch are known. In his studio, with large skylights, Rutger Hiemstra works on various subjects: still-lifes, portraits and, for example, large cloudy skies. Introduction to Eric Schutte A publication in the art magazine 'Atelier', made us aware of his work. Very special we found his paintings, square-air paintings where the influences of the weather, the light to a special touch and a very colorful whole. Versatile What we do, when we see an artist's work that appeals to us, is to search for other work. This also applies to Eric. His website taught us that he is very versatile. In addition to paintings, Eric has found a special way of design. With waste plastic, iron and other material he makes the most special installations, commissioned, but also free work. An appointment was made quickly! Eric Schutte lives and works in Ommen, his studio is next to a beautiful mill. At the time of visit it is cold, there is some frozen snow and it is almost dark when I arrive. In the studio it is immediately clear that Eric is busy with everything. Mountains with tubes of oil paint, different donkeys with semi-manufactured paintings, a particularly large pile of waste plastic. Eric is an enthusiastic narrator, besides being an artist, he is a drawing teacher for a few days a week. I can imagine how he knows how to enthuse his students! Eric talks about special assignments that constantly lead to new ideas and new 'free works'. (The free work Eric likes to call 'research'.) For example, a cow, at De Brink in Ommen, produced Eric on behalf of the municipality. He made the cow out of iron. Old iron from all farmers in the immediate vicinity of Ommen. With this old iron he constructed a cow, the iron is particularly visible, but also the cow. Very clever! Environments Eric takes me enthusiastically to his work. The paintings, classical in origin, made with elegant imagination, and the images, beautiful and simple at the same time, and therefore also stimulating to look better. With these paintings Eric is always looking for the edge, during the opening exhibition we have a special work from him. Is it a 6-part, or are it 6 separate paintings of a railway crossing where a train is passing by? Anyway, you keep looking at it. Eric tells about this when I pick up the work: "I see something then, and then I want something with it, and this is it. Yes, otherwise I can not explain it ". Another and special piece during the opening exhibition is also by Eric Schutte. A calf made from almost 2000 yellow ear tags of slaughtered calves and iron. Particularly plastic and very lifelike. Eric Schutte is an artist who makes both conceptual and classical work. Eric himself about this: "The conceptual work consists of a figurative design in which the non-obvious use of materials is part of the imagination. The concept also plays a major role in classical work, but the material (use) is more traditional. I consider making images as a continuous game and research in which the idea and the design are equal and influence each other ". The opening exhibition and the work of Eric that we have kept in stock has been sold for a large part. Particularly enthusiastic and enthusiastic are people who see his work.
