Johannes Bosboom was born in The Hague in 1817.
During his lifetime, Johannes Bosboom would become one of the best-known painters of church interiors. His work has been much appreciated over time.
He received his training from Romantic masters such as Bart van Hove and Wijnand Nuijen. Johannes Bosboom also took lessons at the Hague Drawing Academy.
He showed his preference for the church interior at an early age. He made several journeys in his early years as an artist. In 1835 he visited Germany and in 1837 he traveled to France via Antwerp, where he worked mainly in Rouen and Paris.
In 1851 he married the writer Anna Bosboom-Toussaint.
He is considered a precursor of the 'Hague School'.
The masterful way in which he used light in his church interiors made him one of the most important European painters in this genre.

Depcited is a boy busy fleaing a dog. The boy sits on a chair with the dog on his lap. On a table on the right there is a book and a pen. On a wooden bench lies the boy's hat.
What is unique about this painting by Ter Borch, is the relationship that is depicted between human and animal. Mostly animals like dogs where depicted as an attribute in paintings in the 17th century, and sometimes used to symbolize certain character traits. This boy is lovingly caring for his dog, which he is giving his full attention.
Another interesting detail is that Ter Borch's brother Moses, was probably the model for this painting. Ter borch often used family members as models for his paintings. Moses was also a very talented painter and draughtsman.
Several copies of this work by Ter Borch are known. One of these copies is in the collection of the Dutch Rijksmuseum (Image included in the image gallery (last image)).

Flip Gaasendam tells with his paintings what he likes, there, in those places, he paints. His recognizable loose touch, carefully chosen colors, spherical landscapes, interiors and portraits have been part of the permanent collection of Galerie Bonnard for years.

The artist himself says that he wants to put life to a halt in his work. He says the following about his way of working:
'Because I am an aquarellist from home, I learned how to paint transparently in tone and tone. I also use that in my oil paints. My work is classified as post-impressionistic. When I paint, however, I forget everything about art history. I like a lot of things, from Alma Tadema to Andrew Wyeth, but I am a painter of today. It therefore goes too far to say that I consciously go back to the past. I work unorthodox. I do not apply the paint with a fixed method. I brush with wipes, use the palette knife, work with my hands, etc. That my palette is heavily controlled by the color green, is because I often make a painting blond with cobalt and ocher. My themes are often nostalgic and romantic. as a child, I thought the morning mist was beautiful, and with the light effect in the Groninger station restoration it is just as well. '

He has many successful exhibitions behind his name and his work has been sold all over the world. Keimpe also publishes a lot about art and artists in magazines such as Atelier and Palet.
The beautiful place where Keimpe has his studio since two years is located in Drenthe. At the edge of forests and fields, Keimpe can retire and concentrate on his still lifes, portraits, landscapes and gardens. The latter subject, garden and landscape, can also be seen during the exhibition 'Rhythm, stillness and movement'. Come on 'is the work where Keimpe painted his own garden. An inviting path almost literally enters the garden. Tuinen made his tutor Matthijs Röling, gardens also made Keimpe van der Kooi himself. We see similarities but also many differences. We see the beautiful colors that we know from Keimpe's still lifes in his garden. Purple, yellow and red flowers grow along the garden path of Keimpe, the colors and details disappear to the back so that you have the feeling to look into the depth. Magnificent.
Keimpe also painted a sandy path in Drenthe for this exhibition. In the summer light the green colors get a warm glow. The coil with the shadow also ensures that you can walk down the path, the depth in the work is enormous. As a result, you do not hang a flat painting on the wall, but you get space!
