About Lichtenstein’s Mirror Series (taken from Corlett):
Mirrors were an important subject in Lichtenstein’s paintings and prints of the early 1970s. From late 1969 to 1972 he painted over forty canvases depicting this subject. The first print was in 1970, with Twin Mirrors (cat. no.102) for the Guggenheim Museum. In 1972 he also produced Mirror (cat. No. 115) at Styria Studio, in addition to this Gemini G.E.L. series of nine prints. In the mid-seventies he took up the subject in sculpture, and he returned to it in prints as recently 1990, with Mirror (cat. No 246). In addition, he has often explored the related theme of reflections, incorporating them in various paintings and in several print series: Reflections (1990; cat. Nos. 239 – 245), Interiors (1990, published 1991; cat. nos. 247 – 54), and Water Lilies (1992; cat. nos. 261 – 66).
This Gemini group (catalog nos. 1-6 - 114) utilizes lithography, screenprint, line-cut, and embossing... In an interview with Lawrence Alloway, Lichtenstein noted: “You know, I am always impressed by how artificial things look – like descriptions of office furniture in newspapers. It is the most dry kind of drawing, as in the Mirrors. They really only look like mirrors if someone tells you they do. Only once you know that, they may be moved as far as possible from realism, but you want it to be taken for realism. This portrait of St. Simon depicts him standing in a street, holding a book and leaning on a saw. The saw is typical of St. Simon's depictions as he was said to have been martyred by being sawed in half. Very good impression of this print, with bold lines and high contrast. This leaflet contains the words "Callot fec." in the bottom right, shorthand for the Latin fecit, meaning Callot made this. This edition contains no publishers mark or numbering on the piece, indicating that it is from the first printing state.
Jacques Callot was born in the Duchy of Lorraine around 1592 to an important family in the court. He started an apprenticeship as a goldsmith at the age of 15, but later began learning etching. He is known for his technical skill in etching and for developing the echoppe style etching needle. Callot's etchings featured religious figures as well as soldiers, common people, beggars, and court individuals. His series "The Miseries and Misfortunes of War," published while Lorraine was invaded during the Thirty Years War, later influenced Goya's "Los Desastres de la Guerra...

An active architecture photographer since 1985, is a master of perspectives and precise spatial compositions, and he thus considers classical sculpture, in all of its possible facets, a special challenge.
"Görner’s photographs sometimes open the doors to another world and take the viewer with them on a journey through time. Here the palace is no longer a museum but both royal residence and a site steeped in history. The viewer does not have to share the halls with the masses of visitors; instead the images offer him exclusive impressions of the Galerie des Glaces (Hall of Mirrors) and the Galerie des Batailles (Hall of Battles) as even the king of France was probably never granted. The halls are empty of people, yet they seem to be able to unfurl their individual characters of their own accord. These places practically breathe history, and this aspect is also part of the essence captured in the photographs. King Wilhelm of Prussia was named German Emperor Wilhelm I in the Hall of Mirrors after France was defeated in 1870–1871 in the Franco-German War. In the infinitely complex world of contemporary art, many works serve as vehicles for thought, postural statements, and emotion. Such is the case with SHAO QI, a renowned Chinese artist who skillfully blends the political, cultural, and aesthetic in her lithographic work entitled "I am a Ninja."
This piece, limited to thirty copies, numbered 21/30 in pencil and dated 2011, is a perfect example of how cross-influences can be integrated and cultural barriers broken down.
Historically, ninjas were inferior warriors in feudal Japan, often recruited by samurai and governments to serve as spies. Their mysteriousness has allowed them to infiltrate contemporary popular culture, so much so that their ubiquity eventually transcends borders, internationalizing the ninja and rendering its Japanese origin a simple detail, among others, in public perception, a component of a character that has become universal.
Pop art, an artistic movement of the second half of the 20th century, is known for its appropriation and subversion of consumer products and cultural icons. By hijacking elements of mass culture, pop artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein transformed the perception of art and its eligible subjects. The use of a ninja silhouette in "I Am a Ninja" follows this tradition, exploiting a popular symbol to reimagine it.
The dynamic interplay of colors, in particular the aesthetic power of red and black, is essential. Red's radiant luminescence contrasts sharply with black's ultimate absorption, framing the work in a colorimetric face-off reminiscent of the propaganda posters of yesteryear. Red, the color of revolution, power, passion, and vitality, blends with black, shadow, and emptiness.
