"The Smoker" After Shakespeare's "The Taming Of The Shrew" Petruchio - Antique Lithograph Lithograph titled "The Smoker," after the character "Petruchio" in William Shakespeare's play "The Taming Of The Shrew," by Paul Adolphe Rajon (French, 1843-1888). A man stands in uniform, holding a pipe to his mouth while he lights it. A large fireplace mantle is seen in the background, with a desk and chair off to the right side. Signed "Rajon A.P" "A. Fauro" lower right Presented in period ornate oak frame, with a white mat. Frame: 23"H x 20"W Mat: 16.5"H x 13.5"W Image: 10.5"H x 8.5"W Paul-Adolphe Rajon (French, 1843-1888) was a French painter and printmaker. Awarded medals at the Salons of 1869, 1870, 1873 and at the Exposition Universelle of 1878. He etched both contemporary works and Old Masters. Critically praised world wide.
