Raingo Frères, founded in 1832, was famous for its astronomical clocks, one of which is now in the Windsor Castle collection. The set is complemented by bronzes from the renowned sculptor Salmson, a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon. The garniture includes a central mantel clock and two matching eight-light candelabra, all expertly crafted from ormolu and white marble. The clock features a central column topped with a finely detailed sculptural group of bacchantes holding grapevine garlands, with cherubs draping them over large vases. The gorge case of characteristic design, profusely engraved to all sides with foliate scrolls and flowers on a matted ground, the signed Roman enamel dial with moon hands and subsidiary alarm within a gilt mask with conforming decoration, the signed two train spring barrel movement with lever platform escapement, striking the hour and half hour on a bell. 14.5cm (5.75ins) high with handle down, 9.5cm (3.75ins) wide, 8.5cm (3.375ins) deep. This very early 1800s Danish Bornholm Grandfather clock was peobably made around 1800-1820. It has beautiful detail and the paint is generally good as you can see with the gold detailing turning bronze with age. It has the usual amount of cracking and wood movement for its age but its structurally sound although needs delicate handling. It comes with the original clockwork, pendulum and weights which may work but it is not function tested The clock is sold 'as is' : as a decorative piece only with the original mechanism and pendulum but not guaranteed to be in working order - If you want it working we can fit a professional hi torque battery mechanism for time keeping ( +£250) or you can have a great sounding chiming mech which replays the recorded chime through a small speaker with a volume control and 8 hour night off switch (+£350) or you can choose to have you local clockman clean / repair and set up the original clockwork mechanism at your location to get it going The battery mech change if you choose that option takes approximate 2-3 weeks. This superb George I period antique longcase clock by Daniel Delander is cased in highly figured walnut veneer of lovely colour and patina. Standing on a double plinth there is a panelled base and moulded trunk door. The pull forward hood is flanked by quarter columns with brass capitals. The case retains the original caddy top surmounted by two finials. The square dial has an applied chapter ring with cherubin spandrels. The dial centre is finely matted with an engraved date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial. The original blued steel hands appear to be original and are finely wrought and pierced.
