Antique George III Mahogany Longcase Clock by Samuel Hunter of Islington London

About the Item

A late George III antique mahogany longcase clock of eight day duration. The ogee shaped silvered brass dial, reminiscent of Dutton, has subsidiary dials for seconds and the date within the dial centre. The makers signature, ‘Samuel Hunter Islington,' is set within the shallow ogee arch. The fine quality plated movement runs for eight days and sounds the hours on a single bell. The elegant hood is surmounted by a fret with three brass ball and spire finials. The hood door is framed by the chamfered and reeded hood corners which terminate in brass at the bases. The well proportioned case has the finest crutch wood figured mahogany veneers to both the full length trunk door and the panelled base. The clock stands on its original shaped double plinth.
