Born and raised in Bucharest Romania, I am a self-taught dreamer and artist. To dream is my path and to paint is my dream.
Lack of control is not my strong suit, but in the painting process things are different. The resin (also known as liquid glass) has a mind of its own and I learn to mindfully let go every time I paint. I allow those liquid color induced emotions I feel to drive me and take lead of my hands and at the end of the process, it’s just music and bliss. My inspiration is always nature's force, balance, perfection in purpose and beauty. It can be a place I travelled or sailed to or just a feeling floating on our boat docked in a Turkish marina or just on anchor nearby a Greek taverna on a remote tiny island in the Mediterranean or Aegean Sea. January morning, heavy swell and a strong southwester, rain imminent, sheltering beneath lichen furred granite outcrops.
A plein air painting from the series 'Holan ha Dor' (Meaning 'Salt and Earth in Cornish). West Cornwall is a harshly beautiful peninsula, jutting out into the wild tireless ocean, shaped and moulded by powerful salt laden Atlantic winds, and criss-crossed by ancient, tangled hedgerows. Drawn to the immediacy of moments, underpinned by enduring narratives, Sophia's fluid expressive paintings explores the flux and balance in the nature of all things: The freedom of the air and solidity of the soil; Of anchored stone and rhythmic water; Of human narratives written in the wild landscapes; In the sensual interplay of light and shadow. They capture an essence of the equilibrium between wild raw energy and serene stillness; chaos and harmony; and the enduring and the effervescent.

About The Artist
Sophia Milligan is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist, exploring discourses on permanence & evanescence; the eternal, cyclical absolutes of birth & death; motherhood & childhood; and ancient immutable connections. With resonating ripples of intuition and instinct Sophia illuminates the presence of the ordinary, creating moments of sublime present.
'Born among the wild cliffs and tempestuous seas of west Cornwall, I grew with the intimate details in the twisting lanes and the intense changing light throughout the turbulent seasons. I formed a primordial connection with a deep instinctual sense of being part of the natural narrative, and wherever in the world I may be, this connectivity underpins my practice. Like the wind sculpted hawthorns and sensual coves of weather worn granite, I have been shaped by the powerful energy entwined in this ancient raw environment.’
‘We are the stories of the journeys that came before. I weave into my work the tales of transitory circumstance; of struggle and survival; of forms and textures holding records of evolutionary millennia. I paint, I draw: with marks, mixtures, photography, words; the raw earth; the restless oceans; the whispered breeze. I work with time, and the immeasurable spaces of experience within, giving subtleties of existence a pause for contemplation. There is beauty in such poignant breaths. All moments are significant, every pebble of now forms the vast mountain of yesterday, and the great realm of tomorrow's possibilities'.
Sophia has a 1st class honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Visual Arts and World History, and a Masters Degree in Contemporary Visual Arts. Recognized for seductive, enigmatic works in oil on wood panel, Will's picture surfaces are fascinating – he favors oil paint with chalk and graphite – and often allows the wood grain to emerge as a natural texture. He finishes each painting with a clear resin that operates as a lens. Admitting light and transmitting light, lending a palpable warmth and liquidity to the experience.
Will Hudson is a formally trained architect originally from the UK, now practicing in Toronto, Canada. With an eclectic career in the art world, Will has shown and performed chalk street painting and murals in across North America and Europe. His installations have been exhibited at Nuit Blanche in Toronto in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2014. In this affecting composition, Yektai combines the dynamism of the abstract expressionist style with the soft, meditative qualities of Monet's waterlilies.
Yektai first paints the canvas with loose strokes of rich deep greens. A pinkish red abstract form takes center stage - ang highlights of yellow flank the edges. Then he pours a clear-grade liquid resin onto the painted canvas and lets it harden into a glassy surface. Finally, he uses linear brushstrokes connecting colors into forms, in the typical impressionist style. Yektai varies the volume in which he applies paint, from thin and dry to sopping wet and thick. This process allows for a more three-dimensional experience of the painting. One can see through layers which build-up to create the flurry of brushstrokes. The reflective surface makes space for the viewer to see themselves in the painting, looking back at them. A contemporary notion.
