Paris, rue des Solitaires, oil painting by Pierre Coquet
Located in Montfort l’Amaury, FR
Paris, rue des Solitaires, oil painting by Pierre Coquet Reference number F489 The painting is framed with a natural oak floated frame. 65 x 50 cm (70 x 55 cm frame included) This work is painted with oil on a paper that is laid on a board and placed in a made to measure wood strectcher. It is signed in the low right Paris is one of Pierre most important subjects. Pierre's Paris is always depicted in a grey atmosphere. Buildings are stylized but the city is recognizable with its typical grey galvanised steel and orange terracota chimneys. The composition here is a little atypical, as there is a certain symmetry between the top and bottom of the painting. You could almost turn it upside down, there's a kind of mirror effect. The support for the painting is a cardboard box salvaged from the art school where he taught (Corvisart-Paris). The students used it to protect their tables. Pierre kept them and painted on them, and we can see little drawings or annotations made by students who had fun scribbling on them. Provenance : Workshop of the artist (stamped and numbered on the back) About Pierre : Pierre Coquet (1926-2021) is a French painter who was born in Limas near Lyon, France. He entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Lyon in 1942 and followed the teaching of Antoine Chartres, Henri Vielly and René Chancrin...

Artist Comments
A pair in a kayak glides through the ocean under a clear blue sky in this realistic piece by artist Jesse Aldana. Calmer waters in the open sea promise a great day under the warm sun as the light glistens on the crashing waves near the shore. A gentle haze glows where mountains peek through the mist. "The bright horizon hints at a future of limitless possibilities."

About the Artist
California artist Jesse Aldana uses the ritual of sunrise and sunset to capture the spirit of the west. Using a hybrid of realist brushwork and an almost surreal absence of humans, Jesse documents residential neighborhoods, main thoroughfares and coastal scenes across the great city of Los Angeles. Reminiscent of Ed Ruscha, Jesse’s work acts as both a record of the current landscape as well as a metaphor for the openness and sense of opportunity that continually draw settlers to the west coast. Jesse says of California, “the sky is an overwhelming presence.” He frames his big sky compositions with narrow palm trees and low-slung buildings at the periphery of the canvas to illustrate the scale of the scene. In doing so, the viewer can begin to appreciate the sentiment of the final frontier. Jesse works from a home studio in Los Angeles using photographs that he takes of the surrounding area as source material. He holds a BA from Brown University and an MFA from The New York Academy of Art. He regularly exhibits at the Beverly Hills Art Show.

American Vivid Abstract Expressionist Art Oil Painting Norman Carton, WPA Artist
Located in Surfside, FL
Norman Carton (1908 – 1980) was an American artist and educator known for abstract expressionist art. He was born in the Ukraine region of Imperial Russia and moved to the United States in 1922 where he spent most of his adult life. A classically trained portrait and landscape artist, Carton also worked as a drafter, newspaper illustrator, muralist, theater set designer, photographer, and fabric designer and spent most of his mature life as an art educator. Carton showed in and continues to be shown in many solo and group exhibitions. His work is included in numerous museums and private collections throughout the world. Norman Carton was born in the Dnieper Ukraine territory of the Russian Empire in 1908. Escaping the turbulence of civil war massacres, he settled in Philadelphia in 1922 after years of constant flight. While attending the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art, Carton worked as a newspaper artist for the Philadelphia Record from 1928 to 1930 in the company of other illustrator/artists who had founded the Ashcan School, the beginnings of modern American art. From 1930 to 1935, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts under Henry McCarter, who was a pupil of Toulouse-Lautrec, Puvis de Chavanne, and Thomas Eakins. Arthur Carles, especially with his sense of color, and the architect John Harbison also provided tutelage and inspiration. Following his time at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Carton studied at the Barnes Foundation from 1935 to 1936 where he was influenced by an intellectual climate led by visiting lecturers John Dewey and Bertrand Russell as well as daily access to Albert C. Barnes and his art collection. Carton was awarded the Cresson Traveling Scholarship in 1934 which allowed him to travel through Europe and study in Paris. There he expanded his artistic horizons with influences stemming from Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Chaim Soutine, and Wassily Kandinsky. While at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Carton was also awarded the Toppan Prize for figure painting as well as the Thouron Composition Prize. He received numerous commissions as a portrait artist, social realist, sculptor, and theatrical stage designer as well as academic scholarships. During this time, Carton worked as a scenery designer at Sparks Scenic Studios, a drafter at the Philadelphia Enameling Works, and a fine art lithographer. From 1939 to 1942, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) Federal Art Project employed Carton as a muralist and easel artist. He collaborated with architect George Howe. The WPA commissioned Carton to paint major murals at the Helen Fleischer Vocational School for Girls in Philadelphia, the Officers’ Club at Camp Meade Army Base in Maryland, and in the city of Hidalgo, Mexico. Throughout the 1940s, Carton exhibited and won prizes for his semi-abstract Expressionist and Surrealist paintings. He socialized with and was inspired by Émile Gauguin and Fernand Leger. During World War II, Carton was a naval structural designer and draftsman at the Cramps...

Located in New York, NY
A beautiful oil on canvas painting by the French artist, Jean Salabet. Salabet was a Parisian painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. His work is comparable to those of Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard and Edouard Cortes. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career. Here you see the artists vendors selling paintings along the view of Notre Dame de Paris, located on the Île de la Cité in the 4th Arrondissement of Paris. People are scattered throughout between the tree lined street. The details are magnificent as Salabet captures the architecture of Paris so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. The piece is signed by the artist lower left and it comes housed in a wonderful wood carved antique frame with linen liner and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed. Art measures 10.75 x 13.75 inches Frame measures 16.25 x 19.25 inches Jean Salabet was a pseudonym used by the Spanish artist Juan Bayón Salado (1913-1995) in the mid-20th century. Nightfall, Acrylic & oil landscape painting, signed, framed, Museum provenance
Located in New York, NY
Thelma Appel Nightfall, 1973 Acrylic and Oil on Canvas. Hand Signed. Framed. Hand signed and titled on the back Unique Frame included Museum Provenance. This work was originally sold in 1973 by the prestigious Jill Kornblee Gallery to a corporate collection, and, in 2019, it was featured in the Thelma Appel 50 year career survey at the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont – so the provenance is superb. Measurements: Framed 38.5 x 89.5 inches Artwork 36.5 x 87.5 inches Thelma Appel Biography: A co-founder of the Bennington College Summer Painting Workshop, Thelma Appel is a representational and abstract painter who has been practicing art for more than six and a half decades. In the 1980s, Thelma Appel was represented by the renowned Jill Kornblee Gallery and, after Ms. Kornblee retired, Appel joined the legendary Fischbach Gallery, (the gallery of record for Alex Katz for many decades,) also on West 57th Street, before they shuttered. After leaving Manhattan, she retreated from the art world for several decades; however, in recent years, her work is being rediscovered by a generation of new collectors. A beloved and popular teacher, at 87 years of age, Thelma could still be found teaching “The Art of Painting” at Artsplace in Cheshire, CT. and at the Osher Life Long Learning Institute (OLLI) At the University of Connecticut, near her home during the 2024-5 Fall/Winter Semester. In 2019, she was subject of a 50-year career survey (October, 2019 -February 2020) at the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont, entitled Thelma Appel: Abstract/Observed curated by Mara Williams. She has also exhibited at the Mattatuck Museum in Connecticut, which acquired one of her fabric collages for their permanent collection, the Bennington Museum in Vermont and the Police Museum in Lower Manhattan. Thelma Appel was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, but following her parents’ divorce, her father remained in Israel, but her mother emigrated to London to pursue a career as a journalist. However, she soon became ill, and Thelma was sent alone to be educated in a Protestant missionary schools in Darjeeling, India, a geographical displacement that would impact her life and her work. Thelma returned to London, England, to study art at the legendary St. Martin's School of Art (later Central St. Martins) and Hornsey College of Art, under such renowned teachers as Joe Tilson and Eduardo Paolozzi, before emigrating to the United States in the 1960s. Her work has been exhibited in numerous venues, including the Bennington Museum, the Berkshire Museum in North Adams, Mass., the Children's Museum of the Arts in New York City, the Mattatuck Museum, the Brattleboro Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Robert Hull Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont and the University of Pennsylvania Fine Arts Gallery. In 1974 she was awarded a YADDO Fellowship, and in 1975, Thelma Appel, along with the painter Carol Haerer, co-founded the Bennington College Summer Painting Workshop, where many distinguished painters of the day, both abstract and representational, conducted master classes. Among them were Neil Welliver, John Button, Alice Neel, Larry Poons, Friedel Dzubas, Stanley Boxer, Elizabeth Murray and Doug Ohlson – a program that continued until 1980. (One of Thelma’s students was the renowned art dealer Matthew Marks.) She has also taught drawing at Parsons School of Design, painting at Southern Vermont College and at the University of Connecticut. Appel’s work has been presented at Art on Paper, Texas Contemporary, Market Art & Design in Bridgehampton and Art New York art fair, which selected Appel’s Times Square series of paintings for their invitational public Project Space sponsored by Absolut Vodka. She was one of the winning artists of the juried exhibition “Pets of the Pandemic” juried by art historian and critic David Cohen, publisher and editor of artcritical, who cited it for special commendation as a “masterful portrait”. In recent years, Thelma’s work has been exhibited in both one-person and group shows at Alpha 137 Gallery in New York, Sager Reeves (now Sager Braudis) Gallery in Missouri, the Chashama Foundation in New York City, as well as the Five Points Gallery and Center for the Visual Arts in Torrington Connecticut, the David M. Impressionist Oil Painting – Sunset Over Colorado Front Range Landscape
Located in Denver, CO
This evocative oil on canvas painting by renowned American landscape artist Charles Partridge Adams (1858–1942) beautifully captures a glowing sunset along Colorado's majestic Front Range. Rendered in a refined Tonalist style, the work features tall, mature trees bathed in soft hues of green, amber, gold, and rust, evoking the serene transition of day into evening in the Western landscape. Although unsigned, this work is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the artist’s estate, ensuring provenance and collector confidence. The painting is presented in a vintage gold frame, enhancing its timeless appeal. Framed dimensions measure 18 ½ x 26 ¼ inches; the canvas itself measures 16 x 24 inches. This piece reflects Adams’s signature ability to translate the quiet drama of nature into rich, atmospheric compositions. A fine addition to any collection of American Western art, Tonalism, or early 20th-century landscape painting. About the Artist: Charles Partridge Adams (1858–1942) was one of Colorado’s most celebrated landscape painters and a prominent figure in the American West’s early art scene. "Abstract Green Elegance" Part 2 LPT2, Abstract, 21st Century, Acrylic, Clay
Located in Dessau-Rosslau, Sachsen Anhalt
Artist: Roger König b. Dessau, Germany (1968) Master student of Kurt Schönburg, HWK Halle, Germany. König combines modern painting with acrylic with old techniques and in this way, he connects contemporary art with tradition. The natural clay color bestows the pictures with a completely special dim texture which stands in an exciting contrast with the delicate luster of the acrylic color. The features of the clay color allow a more intensive treatment of the surface. Often, there are lines, scratches or breaks in the surface, as if the canvas had been covered with a fair patina. More subtle strokes in the color bring graphic characters to mind, color gradients natural phenomena, divided canvasses the contrast which is immanent in everything: the principle of yin and yan. Roger König's works are in private collections worldwide. His admirers include leading figures in international business, film and media.
