Born in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, in 1914, Effie Y. Goodman subsequently spent her early years on her grandfather’s farm in Missouri. She attended college in Ada and the University of Oklahoma in Norman from 1931-1935. After college, she went to New York where she worked under distinguished artists such as George Bridgman and John Corbin at The Art Students League in New York in the early 1940s.
She adopted the name Yeffe Kimball, adapting her first husband's surname of Campbell to form Kimball, and never returned to her small-town roots. She became a world traveler and student, studying intermittently with Fernand Léger in Paris from 1940-1941. In 1948, she married Harvey L. Stalin, an atomic scientist. BIO
Among the early American modernists, James Daugherty was one of the first exponents of abstract color painting. Throughout his career, whether he was working in an abstract or a representational mode, Daugherty felt pure color to be the most effective means of creating powerful and evocative works of art.
Daugherty was born in Asheville, North Carolina, near the Great Smoky Mountains. He received his formal training at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia during the early years of the last century. Although he was in Europe from 1905 until 1907, he remained unaffected by avant-garde art until the groundbreaking Armory Show of 1913.

Carl Walter Liner was born in the Swiss canton of Appenzell, near the border with Liechtenstein, in 1914. The son of famed artist Carl August Liner, the younger Liner enjoyed more critical and commercial renown for his landscapes.
In 1938 at the age of 24, he undertook what would become the first of several residencies in Paris. This particular sojourn helped to establish the trajectory of his career, as Paris would provide the setting in which he became acquainted with early twentieth century masters Maurice de Vlaminck, Georges Braque, Ossip Zadkine, Gérard Schneider, and Erich Heckel. The stylistic and technical influence of his contemporaries is clearly evident in Liner’s work from this point forward.
Unfortunately, the dawn of the 1940s would bring about a number of challenges for Liner. With the outbreak of war, Liner was mobilized for the Swiss Border Guard, and returned home to Switzerland in 1939. He remained on active duty until 1945, only to lose his father the following year. The death of the elder Liner left a profound impact on his son, who eventually made his way back to Paris in 1947 and embarked upon what would become a very successful series of nudes.
By his own admission, 1948 was a pivotal year in Liner’s career, as a particularly spiritual trip to Algeria would foment the emotions led to the beginning of his practice with abstraction. Antoni Pitxot i Soler (born in Figueres, 1934 – died in Barcelona, 2015) was a Catalan painter deeply rooted in the surrealist tradition. Coming from an artistic family —his uncle was Ramon Pichot, a friend of Picasso and Dalí— Pitxot trained as a draughtsman and painter from a young age. In the 1960s, he settled in Cadaqués, where he developed his distinct artistic universe.
His paintings revolve around stone as a symbol of permanence, transformation, and memory. Pitxot created sculptural assemblages from real coastal stones and later immortalized them in oil on canvas. His works often hint at human figures, ancient myths, and allegories of time.

"In 1956, at the Charlotte Norberg Gallery (Paris), he presented his first personal exhibition, composed of an ensemble of surrealist paintings of professional inspiration (dental elements). Two years later, at Gallery Royale (Rochefort), he exhibits another 50 paintings on the subject. At that time, a decisive event for the painter David Solot was made: a great new-York-born antibiotic producer Lederle Cy learns about his work and contacts him through the US Ambassador to Paris, proposing an advertising contract and buying the reproduction right for 24 of its canvases. He is a member of the Salon d'Automne as well as a member of its jury, he also exhibits in the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, the Salon Comparisons, and the Salon Terres Latines. In 1976 he shared in the honor of presenting the Salon d'Automne exhibition in Japan .
Michel-Henry blends delicate tones and strong and fascinating accents into his compositions of flower still life, landscapes and marines. An avid interest in nature is the predominant quality of his luminous works.

Wilson Bigaud is an idea artist in who showcases visual ideas in many of his paintings. In this work, a married Haitian couple tunes their radios in sync as they lie in bed. Bigaud was greatly interested in radios, which appeared in many of his works. This work rises to the level of Surrealism in that Bigaud is doing more than just depicting a normal bedroom moment. There is something very strange and bizarre in the couple's synchronized actions. Also of note, it looks like the woman is swallowing the edge of the radio.
