Monica Vitti and Michelangelo Antonioni - Vintage Photo - 1960s
Located in Roma, IT
Monica Vitti and Michelangelo Antonioni is a vintage black and white photo of the italian actress and the italian movie director Michelangelo Antonioni from the 1960s. Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA). Monica Vitti is born in Rome on November 3, 1931. Admitted in 1950 to the Academy of Dramatic Art (where she will return in 1986 as a teacher), and graduated in 1953, she immediately tackles the scenes in L'avaro di Molière (1954), The island of the parrots of S. Tofano (1954), They founded a city of C. Meano (1954), Mother Courage and her children of B. Brecht (1954). Between 1956 and 1959 she also participated in television broadcasts and acted in numerous adaptations of famous theatrical texts. She made her film debut playing secondary parts in Laugh, Laugh, Laugh! by E. Anton, 1955; A mink coat by G. Pellegrini, 1956; Le dritte di M. Amendola, 1958. Dubbing actress of Il scido di M. Antonioni (1957), she meets the director who, after having directed her to the theater in I am a camera by J. Van Druten (1957) and in Secret Scandals by Antonioni and E. Bartolini (1957), he calls her as the protagonist in L'avventura (1960), a film with which V. is a leading actress. Always led by Antonioni, from now on she will play suffering characters who embody a profound crisis of feelings. Apart from a brief television parenthesis (a transposition of the short story The White Nights by F. Dostoevskij, directed by V. Cottafavi), La notte (1961), L'eclisse (1962) and Deserto rosso (1963) belong to a happy partnership with Antonioni (who will be revived episodically for the production of The Mystery of Oberwald [1980], a courageous experiment of intertwining cinema and electronic techniques, propitiated by the exhumation of a play by J. Cocteau, L'aigle à deux têtes). In the second half of the Sixties, however, the producers showed that they preferred her as an actress endowed with caricatural flair, fine humor, vitalistic exuberance, communicative immediacy; and audiences pay her a growing success, not always corresponding to the quality of her filmography or the variety of her interpretations, among which are the very convincing ones in Modesty Blaise...

"Sexy Scot" by Bob Haswell 28th October 1963: British actor Sean Connery lounges on a sofa with a cigarette. He is in London during filming of the thriller ‘Woman of Straw’ with Gina Lollobrigida. (Photo by Bob Haswell) Sir Sean Connery (born Thomas Connery; 25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film, starring in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983.[1][2][3] Originating the role in Dr. No, Connery played Bond in six of Eon Productions' entries and made his final appearance in Never Say Never Again. Connery began acting in smaller theatre and television productions until his breakout role as Bond. Although he did not enjoy the off-screen attention the role gave him, the success of the Bond films brought Connery offers from notable directors such as Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet and John Huston. Their films in which Connery appeared included Marnie (1964), The Hill (1965), Murder on the Orient Express...

REGGIE KRAY & GRANDFATHER – LONDON 1967 signed limited edition
Located in London, GB
REGGIE KRAY & GRANDFATHER JIMMY ‘CANNONBALL’ LEE – LONDON 1967 signed limited edition silver gelatin print Reggie Kray of the London gangster duo the Krays twins - shot by Duffy sparring with his Grandad – The infamous bare-knuckle boxer Jimmy ‘Cannonball’ Lee in London’s East End 1967. AT DUFFY’S MEMORIAL SERVICE LORD DAVID PUTTNAM ADDRESSED THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF DUFFY AND SAID ‘THE WORLD NEEDS MORE DUFFY’S.’ HE THEN WENT ON TO CALL HIM A MAVERICK, SOMEBODY WHO WAS PREPARED TO TAKE RISKS WITH HIS ART FORM AND DESCRIBED DUFFY AS A ‘SUPREMELY TALENTED AND ESOTERIC MAN.’ ‘A man who thrived on risks and challenges, who lived to create.’ In 2013 Duffy was voted as one of the top most 100 influential photographer’s of all time and he richly deserves that title. When Duffy felt he had pushed the boundaries as far as he could and was no longer satisfied with stills photography he abruptly shut his studio, attempted to burn all of his negatives and moved into commercials. Despite repeated requests to return to still photography, give interviews or discuss his career, he became reclusive and his remaining negatives would have stayed in boxes under the stairs had it not been for the persistence of his eldest son, Chris. Chris realised that Duffy’s name was slowly slipping into obscurity and regularly tried to persuade him to do something with his remaining archive. It wasn’t until 2006 when Duffy was diagnosed with the degenerative lung disease Pulmonary Fibrosis that he finally gave Chris the green light to start putting the archive together. The process was a labour of love for the first few years. Organising, scanning and databasing his negatives took many hours whilst Chris was running his own photographic studio. In 2009 the opportunity to exhibit at Chris Beetles Gallery in Mayfair London (now Beetles & Huxley) gave Duffy the platform for his first ever exhibition which was hailed with great critical acclaim. The exhibition ignited an incredible interest in his work and there were regular queues to see the show. During the process of putting the exhibition together, the BBC commissioned a documentary on Duffy’s life and work which aired in 2010. Chris then started on the first monograph but sadly Duffy was never to see this and passed away on 31st May 2010. Since 2010 Duffy’s work has been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries around the world. In 2012 the Victoria and Albert Museum requested use of the original Aladdin Sane record cover ‘dye transfer’ print for their British Design 1948-2012 cultural exhibition. In 2013 the V&A approached the archive for use of the newly released ‘Eyes Open’ version as the lead image for the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition. This exhibition has achieved record breaking numbers in several venues and has been seen by over 1.5 million visitors. Duffy’s name has now become recognised by an international audience and is now firmly back on the map. In 2014 Duffy’s second book was released – Duffy Bowie: Five Sessions which covers his work with David Bowie. Written by Chris Duffy and Kevin Cann the book explores the chemistry and creation of these five iconic sets of images illustrated with interviews from people who were directly involved. The book is also available in French and Italian. The archive is made up of negatives and contact sheets that have been retrieved from numerous UK and international publications; Vogue, French Elle, Glamour, The Sunday Times, The Telegraph to name but a few in addition to work held by independent archives. The process of exhibiting Duffy’s work continues and the future holds several more book projects illuminating Duffy’s eclectic and influential work. ARCHIVE TIMELINE 2008 The Duffy Archive was established by Chris Duffy. 2009 BBC Documentary “The Man Who Shot The Sixties” One hour documentary on Duffy’s life and work. First exhibition at Chris Beetles Gallery Mayfair, London (now Beetles & Huxley)* See Exhibits page for full list of exhibition since 2009

HANOVER SQUARE, LONDON - VOGUE - 1961 signed
Located in London, GB
VOGUE – HANOVER SQUARE – 1961 This photograph by Duffy was taken in 1961. The bare trees reveal a very different W1 Hanover Square to how it is 50 years later. To the left, you can see the statue of William Pitt (The Younger) which still remains today. Once a highly desirable and exclusive Mayfair address, the square now comprises mostly of offices. The models, wearing various evening dresses are stood opposite the Vogue head office at 1 Hanover Square. The offices were completed in 1958 and have been the publications UK headquarters since. The image was used for a feature titled “Getting home with the milk” for British Vogue in June 1961. His technique of lighting, colour and composition has helped to produce his own unique visual style. Shortly after receiving an Architecture degree he moved to London where he’s been based since 1983. Westenberg is self-taught and learned his trade working for the UK inkies “New Musical Express” and “Melody Maker” mainly throughout the late 80’s and 90’s documenting amongst others all the UK ‘Britpop’ bands. The breakthrough came in 1993-1994 with the release of Sting’s Ten Summoner’s Tales and Mary J Blige’s Share My World. These two album covers changed the perception of the work worldwide and thus began a run of 20 years of commissions and choice opportunities. For the last 25 years, his musical heritage includes portraits of Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Coldplay, White Stripes, Jane's Addiction, Sting, Bjork, Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, Luther Vandross, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Roses, The Pixies, Paul Weller, Rufus Wainwright, Michael Stipe, U2, Mary J. Blige, R.E.M., Black Sabbath, Massive Attack, BB King, The Rolling Stones, PJ Harvey, Marilyn Manson, Pete Doherty, Oasis, Soundgarden, Jake Bugg, and Bon Jovi among many others. Also included are 100’s of albums, singles, magazine & book covers from around the world. He’s also been chosen as official photographer for the LIVE 8 Hyde Park event in 2005 and for Led Zeppelin reunion concert at the 02 Arena, London. The work & interest also include a wide range of artists portraits beyond the music world. David Lynch, Paul Auster, The Coen Brothers, Rupert Friend, Sir Tom Stoppard, Orla Kiely, Vincent Cassel, Audrey Tautou, Billy Bob Thornton, Ethan Hawke, Alan Rickman, Daniel Bruhl, Sean Penn, Shirley Henderson, Aaron Eckhart, Robin Wright, Rhys Ifans, Frances McDormand, Jean-Luc Godard, Ray Winstone, Michel Gondry and Naomi Watts are amongst these portraits. “Rolling Stone”, “Spin”, “Q”, “Time Out”, “Les Inrockuptibles”, “Vogue”, “Rockin On Japan”, “Esquire”, “New York Times Magazine”, “Telegraph” and “Observer” Magazines, “Interview” and dozens of others around the world have commissioned him. The last 15 years he’s been a staff photographer at MOJO Magazine producing many covers and features. Most recently photographing Sir Paul McCartney for the cover story of the November 2013 issue. Westenberg’s biggest honour to date arrived in 2012 when he had his first major global museum show. The location was the ‘Kobe Fashion Museum’, one of Japan’s largest museums. The whole museum was dedicated to Westenberg’s works for a 3 month period. Over 70 images were included in a wide range of sizes, styles and presentation. The catalogue produced sold out during the exhibition’s run. The 20-year attendance record for the museum was also broken by the exhibition. blues soul guitar gibson...

Marilyn Monroe & William Travilla - Press
Located in Cologne, DE
Marilyn Monroe (June 1, 1926 – August 4, 1962) was an American actress, model, and singer. Famous for playing comedic "blonde bombshell" characters, she became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s and early 1960s and was emblematic of the era's sexual revolution. She was a top-billed actress for only a decade, but her films grossed $200 million (equivalent to $2 billion in 2019) by the time of her death in 1962. Long after her death, she continues to be a major icon of pop culture. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked Monroe sixth on its list of the greatest female screen legends from the Golden Age of Hollywood. (wikipedia) William Travilla...

Monica Vitti - Vintage Photo - 1960s
Located in Roma, IT
Monica Vitti is a vintage black and white photo of the italian actres, realized in 1960s. L'agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA) Monica Vitti is born in Rome on November 3, 1931.
