ABOUT THIS PIECE: In August, 2012, I led an Arctic art expedition called Chasing the Light aboard the Wanderbird up the NW coast of Greenland. It was the second expedition to this area whose mission was to create art inspired by the dramatic geography. The first was in 1869, led by the American painter William Bradford. This body of work documents climate change through art. In a deeper sense, this series addresses the concept of saying goodbye on both a personal and global level. My mother, Rena Bass Forman, had conceived the idea for the voyage, but sadly did not live to see it through. During the months of her illness her dedication to the expedition never wavered and I promised to carry out her final journey. In Greenland, I scattered her ashes amongst crackling ice diamonds, on the towering peak of one of earth's oldest stones and under the green glow of northern lights. She is now a part of the landscape she loved so much. I am deeply grateful for the team of talented artists and scholars and the Wanderbird captains and crew for helping me carry out her wishes and realize her dream. My hope is that these drawings bring awareness, and invite viewers to share the urgency in a hopeful and meaningful way. Art can facilitate a deeper understanding of any crisis, helping us find meaning and optimism in shifting landscapes. ABOUT THIS ARTIST: Inspired by childhood trips through the Arctic and other remote, isolated lands, Zaria Forman draws powerfully poignant images of our evolving earth. Documenting evidence of climate change, Forman allows the epic beauty of the ocean and ice dominate her rhythmic compositions, heralding their ultimate ephemerality. Zaria exhibited in Banksy's Dismaland in Weston Super-Mare, UK. She delivered a TEDTalk which aired on PBS and is featured on TED's website. Forman’s works have appeared in National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, and Smithsonian Magazine. Zaria was featured on Good Day New York, Fox News and was interviewed by Lucy Yang on ABC7 Eyewitness News. Her drawings can be seen in the set design for the Netflix TV series House of Cards. NASA invited Zaria to join their Operation IceBridge in Antarctica and Greenland, which she did in 2016 and 2017. PACKAGING: 30x40" and 40x60" prints are shipped in a special fortified tube to guard against bending or damage. Framed 30x40" prints are shipped via FedEx in a bespoke cardboard box with a fitted interior armature for the frame. We do not frame the extra large, 40x60" print sizes because they are too large to ship without risking damage. INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We ship unframed prints internationally via DHL. The international shipping cost does not include the tax & duties, which will be the responsibility of the customer. Unfortunately, because of the high shipping cost we do not ship framed prints internationally at this time.
