About the Item
A skeletal oak, starved of light by the surrounding fir trees still holds its twisted limbs up towards the light as if frozen in its death throes.
"I want to bring a sense of unfamiliarity into the images; to present commonplace nature in a peculiar way. This is, in part, a reaction against our over sanitised and conditioned lives. The night forest is devoid of people. It is an undomesticated wilderness right on our doorstep." - Jasper Goodall
About the Artist:
Born in Birmingham in 1973, Jasper Goodall studied at the University of Brighton, graduating in 1995 from the BA Illustration course.
He went on to become a highly influential illustrator and has worked with high profile clients in the fashion and music industries.
Widely published and much referenced, he was best known for his editorials in The Face Magazine, Dazed & Confused and his creation of ethereal imagery for the English rock band Muse.
He has had joint and solo shows in Tokyo, Hamburg and London.
In 2014 he left the commercial and editorial world and spent several years training as a counsellor at the Psychosynthesis Trust in London. This hiatus provided the opportunity to take stock and re-imagine his creative output in a new and very different form when he picked up his camera. He has returned to a creative practice with a radically different body of work, using photography as a means of expression.
Drawing on historical references, from Victorian taxidermy dioramas to romantic painting he seeks to articulate the hushed, waiting presence that is palpably felt between the dark boughs of a forest at night.
In addition to his photographic practice Goodall teaches creativity and visual communication. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Brighton where he has taught generations of visual communicators for almost 20 years.
Framing: Print is float mounted on aluminium dibond, hardwood frame (for instance Oak or Walnut), finished with antireflective UV protective art glassFramed and unframed fine art prints available.

"Through photography I seek to invoke reverence for the natural world. Using artificial lighting I depict the nocturnal landscape referencing the enchanted settings used in fairytales where the dark forest is understood as a metaphor for the unconscious.
These mysterious realms, although threatening, contain the potential for discovering riches if we can move past fear.
I hope that my images evoke a sense of the landscape containing magic, for if we can begin to relate to the natural world not as a resource to plunder, but an entity to come to know, love and revere, we may rekindle a much needed sacred relationship." - Jasper Goodall

- Twilight's Path, 030, Moonrise - Midsummer full moon - skeletal oak - landscapeLocated in London, GBThe midsummer full moon casts its pale light over the skeletal remains of a deceased oak. Twilight's Path ‘Now air is hushed, save where the weak-eyed bat With short shrill shriek flits by on leathern wing, Or where the beetle winds His small but sullen horn As oft he rises 'midst the twilight path Against the pilgrim, borne in heedless hum’ – William Collins (1721–1759), Ode to Evening. "Once in a while (helped by a bit of planning) everything comes together and you take a photograph that feels really satisfying. However much one reads about artists/photographers trying and failing, taking many shots to end up with that one that works, it’s hard to remember. Just keep showing up, keep doing what you do, it won’t always work out, but sometimes things flow and something special can come through." - Jasper Goodall...Category

- Burnt Place Twilight's Path Forest by Night Fine Art PrintLocated in London, GB"Burnt Place" - After the fire swept through, the forest was left scorched and barren. The ground is still warm and the unstirring air is thick with the scent of charred wood. Scorched, lifeless pines stand solemn and mournful in the shadows of the Burnt Place. About the Twilight's Path project: "We spend our lives surrounded by the security of possessions, relationships and roles, but our futures hold nothing so substantial; one day we must all enter into true not- knowing - into a dark, unconscious place." The image endeavours to celebrate of the noble presence and elegant sway of the ubiquitous palm tree. The palm tree has many symbolic meanings and in this image I have tried to highlight its association with immortality and regeneration with the addition of gold leaf. The majority of Sri Lankan identifies as Buddhist and the spiritual associations gave me the title." - Valda Bailey...Category

- Vintage Porsche Alfa Romeo Mid Century Modern Architecture PhotographBy Tom BlachfordLocated in Brooklyn, NYLandscape, Vintage Car, Palm Tree, Classic Porsche, Mid Century Modern, Limited Series. Archival Inkjet Print on Semi Gloss 100% Cotton Paper. Mid Century Design. Tom Blachford. Moonlight Classic Porsche in Palm Springs California. This is a limited edition print in a series of 10. Each pieces comes with a hand-signed certificate of authenticity. The latest and final release in Australian photographer Tom Blachford’s long-running project, Midnight Modern, will be exhibited for the first time at TOTH Gallery in New York. Loosening the shackles of Palm Springs and Mid Century, Blachford’s large scale works explores some of the outer reaches of the Modernist movement in Architecture, and captured using only the light of the full moon. Blachford's series is a surreal ode to the landscapes of California and its cache of pristine Modernist buildings. Shot entirely at night, bathed in moonlight, the homes, vintage cars, and foliage appear as they have been captured in another space and time. Recognizing the locations may be easy, but it is more difficult to identity when the image was actually taken, be this day or night, in the past, present, or future. The images act as portals in time where it seems these moments exist in all places at once. For Blachford these unique residences act as the sets for infinite narratives, both real and imagined, which the viewer is invited to script for themselves. Each image acts as a still frame for a story about to start and end simultaneously. California has a unique geography and climate, and this gives rise to a distinct deep blue sky: a hue of moonlight ideal for this approach to architectural photography. The long exposure allows the camera to capture a world just beyond our perception and distil it into a single moment. Midnight Modern has already included Palm Springs' most iconic properties; the Kaufman Desert House...Category
